We put in a 12 volt compressor fridge mid summer and it has worked just fine. We are leaving Friday for a trip to California over Thanksgiving so i turned on the fridge this morning. I just checked the temp in the freezer after about 8 hours of being turned on and it is showing about 30 degrees. Could that be because the interior of the trailer is also in the low 30's? The trailer is under some trees beside our house in Salt Lake City and it is about 35 degrees outside right now. I am guessing that since the fridge does not have to work to cool down the fridge department it is also not cooling down the freezer department. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

How cold do you expect the freezer to get to?
32 is freezing. You said you were below that

I think the freezer section was getting to about 5-10 degrees the last time we used it.

According to the FDA, a refrigerator should be set at or below 40°F (4°C), while a freezer should be set at or below 0°F (-18°C) to ensure safe food storage; ideally, aim for a fridge temperature between 35°F and 38°F.

Generally in a single compressor refrigerator freezer, operation in a cold environment results in the freezer being too warm. This is because the temperature sensor is in the refrigerator compartment. When the ambient air is below or just above the desired refrigerator temperature, the compressor doesn’t run enough, so the freezer rises toward refrigerator temperature.

@jkwilson
Thanks for the answer. It makes sense and is what I thought might be happening. In a few days I will be in a warmer location (Morro Bay, CA) so it should not be an issue.
