Fresh water tank drain valve during storage

After draining the fresh water tank for storage, would there be a problem with leaving the drain open to allow fresh air into the tank. There would need to be some type of screen cap installed to keep out insects
 
There wouldn't be an issue with the valve or tank other than, as you said, creepy crawlies or worse yet...mice finding their way in through the dump valve. Yikes!
 
I've left mine open after winterization for five years with no problems. I do flush when de-winterizing by adding water with the fresh tank drain open.

I've found I get more water out of the entire system by driving home from my last trip of the season with my low point drains open, all faucets opened, and my fresh water tank fully open. Then when I winterize I don't even need to blow out the lines. I also drain the water heater before traveling on that last day and leave the plug out. Once I'm done winterizing I close everything up including all of the valves and faucets.
