Dometic DM2682/2882 fridge lower fridge door hinge, the round part that slides over the pin to rotate when open.

I have looked, on this forum and quite a bit online to find a replacement lower hinge and instructions for not breaking more stuff in replacing it, if i can find the part. If a part is out there, is there a better part than plastic?

From what i have come across, there was a nice vidio of a guy swapping the handles and hinges around for the fridge and freezer to open from the other way. It looks like all the parts are just reversible, and the hinges pop off and back on with ease for him. I cant get the broken part out, the part that the screw goes into, that. I dont want to start prying and breaking more stuff.

There is a lot of information on what seems like the older doors, that needed to be replaced, but the newer one, seems to be able to replace the plastic hinge part.

Has anyone tried to reinvent the fridge wheel? by installing some type of a normal or better hinge?

Thanks Scott.

I got the rest of the broken plastic part out. I had to take the bottom plastic trim off that has plastic clips, and doesnt like to come off. Had to pull 2 pins/plastic dowels, then remove the door wood panel. The panel alone is very heavy for the door, then add stuff to the door shelfs, and its no wonder the hinge breaks.

I still cant find the replacement part as it looks, but there is a part that is close, but not exactly the same, unless the one part of it isnt molded in and comes off, if not, it will have to be cut off to work.

I did order the parts that look close enough, to get things rolling, they arent that expensive.

I tried to contact GD and dometic today, but so far no luck.

Ill just wind this up and finish what i started. I didnt take pics, as i wanted to get things done, as i am full timing and need the fridge to stay cold. The freezer door also had to come off. I did it all without shutting off the fridge/freezer.

The problem was, it/the hinge must have been broken when i got the camper, as it didnt have all the pieces to get a feel of what it looked like when hole, to order a new one. New set of 2 hinges was about $25 with shipping. That stumped me, then little to no information on how to do it. Just doing it isnt a problem, doing it without me breaking anything made of plastic, is another thing.

It gets lengthy, so anyone that needs a breakdown on how to replace the hinge on a dometic dm2682 or 2882 just pm me. I can also go on my order and get the part number.

Now that i know how much that door panel weighs, i wont put lots of heavy stuff in the door trays, and will remove all door tray stuff on travel days. It isnt a very hearty hinge set up.
