Friend just bought a Voltage

We decided on the 388M over the Voltage and now a friend has bought a Voltage so now we can compare side by side. I think we are better than Voltage or I would not have bought one but now I will report on what happens to theirs.

We looked at a ton of units, and there were some Voltage, Fuzion, and Tesla models that we really liked, but the build, layout, and especially after-sale support from Grand Design made the decision pretty easy in the end.

We were so close to a Voltage they had started the make ready when I discovered GD. The dealer didn't know they had the 388M in stock when I went to look at it. I told him he needed to check his inventory and sure enough it is the one we bought. Just felt like a whole lot more camper and better constructed than the others.

I was at a Camping World last weekend and looked at a new Voltsge that was inside their showroom. It's a nice toy hauler but to me and my wife there's no comparison to our Momentum. I just wasn't impressed and we looked about every rut hauler made but never even considered the Voltage. Back 3 or 4 years ago we liked it a lot. The Tesla was our second choice but we always kept coming back to the Momentum. We liked the looks of the outside of the Momentum the best and we liked the interior by far the best of any we looked at.

Friend don't let friends buy Voltages..:D
I looked at a few rigs myself and the 380th fit the best for me. I really did like the DRV JX450 Fullhouse, but could not justify the extra 60 grand. I see they have been dropping there prices as most people probably couldn't justify it either.

Lol. I had to have the 14 ft garage. I agree on these momentums, it just felt better walking into it on the lot. The voltage dealer told me they have to basically rebuild every unit when they come in from voltage. That seems so crazy to me.

We looked at all of the large toyhaulers prior to going with the 380TH. Several we liked a lot but none had the sheer living space and layout of the one we chose. The Tesla models were our second choice but IMO the build quality and support would of been lacking. Plus they are a bit gaudy for my taste.

We also looked at a DRV 450 and liked it but passed in the end as the layout wasn't quite right. Funny thing, some friends went with us to look at it and ended up buying it. RV is still at the dealer waiting for warranty work to finish from items they found during the PDI - there were lots of small items and a couple serious issues. None we evident when we toured the trailer on the sales lot.

In comparison, we took our new RV camping straight after the PDI and have found very few issues with it since then. I have dealt directly with GD to get the items taken care of and they have been excellent to deal with. Cut the dealer BS out of the equation and things get fixed pretty quickly. Just my experience, though.

Are you repairing the items yourself or having someone do it? That's basically my plan and no way am I leaving my 385 at the dealer sitting outside for 2-3 months to do one day of work. That's not really an option anyways since I didn't purchase locally. 2-3 months is for their customers, can't imagine for non customers.

Was it the "disco party lights"? My wife and I liked a lot of things about the Tesla units - the blackout shades, some of the layout, and even the lighting around the edges of the counters. But like you, we noted some issues with the build quality of the units we looked at, didn't get any real info from the factory, and hated those disco lights. It seemed like more of a party machine and nothing like a home.

Doing the repairs myself as I am not a big fan of the work most RV shops perform. There are some exceptions though but the wait time is unbearable to me as good shops are booked out for a loooong time. The only thing I might have a shop do is the swap to disk brakes. When parts come in (hoping soonish) I will have to see if I have the time. I do have a local shop that will do that work well and not gouge me too badly.

Yep, you nailed it. Disco went the way of the dinosaur for good reason! The lightning bolt decor was a bit too much as well. Wrote a term paper on Nicola Tesla so I get the symbology. Just didn't think I wanted to see it everyday.

We had narrowed our choose down to the Voltage. Looked at Toy Haulers for about a year, from Yuma, Az. up to Paso Robles, Ca. Went to the California RV Show at Pamona, Ca. and had made up our minds what we wanted.
We found the best price up in Nipomo, Ca. at the Trailer Hitch Rv. We were trying to figure out the garage size between two Voltage's, when our sales lady showed us the Grand Design 380TH, 350M & the 348M that had just been added to their inventory. WOW!! They were nice!! We were not too sure of the light floor colors at first, but went home and thought about it some more. Did some more research and decided that we better go look again at the Grand Design models. Made two more trips (Two hours each way) to the dealer, and picked out the 348M for the garage size.

We are really happy with our Grand Design Trailer!!

Our 2015 380TH is our 4th toy hauler, and it is the best by far. before the 380 we had a Heartland Road Warrior, before that an XLR. As many of you have said, we also looked at the Voltage, but fell short of our 380. Believe me, we have seen all the changes and models from our first in 2001, and the Momentum is ahead of the game. we have had numerous people at campgrounds want to take a look and ALL were impressed.

Interesting thread seeing as how just yesterday I went to my local RV dealer to look at the Momentum 388M. While there he showed my the Voltage V3805 which is nearly identical. I'm currently in the process of listing the Pros & Cons of each trailer to help me determine which will be best for me. Once I've written it up I'll share it here on the Momentum General Discussion page. Meanwhile, I'll anxious await more information on this thread.

Hey Chris,
I see your in WA was your dealer in Fife for both the Voltage and your 380?

Hey JensenSon,
Call a mobile repair service and ask them their thoughts on the Voltage. I had a tech out on my Fuzion. I let him know I was thinking of upgrading my Toy Hauler. He told me his opinion about all of them, the good, the bad, the places to look for issues when I was walking through the 5th wheels on the lots. He said in his opinion to stay away from the Voltage. I took his advise and when walking the lots shopping I was getting that sick feeling in my stomach at all the issues. The one he had worked on the least amount of time was the Momentum.

I had been Talking to Mr Bill from GD since 2012 about their M series, but had not seen the 36 foot we were looking for. I had given up on getting a 36 foot and went to a dealer that sold GD to look again at the 350M when I saw the 328M. It was exactly what I wanted, I walked in and it felt like home. I looked over every place I was told to look. After an hour of checking and double checking, we bought it. I have not regretted it. I the issues I had should have been found during the PDI (but were not) and GD made sure they were scheduled and fixed by a mobile repair service. I did not trust the dealer to do it correct as others have stated.

For me GD will be the only RVs I buy, just based on the customer service I have received. (Just my 2 cents worth) good luck on your search and let us know what you decide.

We actually bought a voltage 3895, only to have the private party call the night before delivery to announce he had sold to someone else... whew!! Then my best friend with a 3895 told us to "RUN AWAY". He is looking to unload his and move to a GD. We are SO VERY HAPPY with this RV. I am in the process of doing a DIY inverter install. Can't wait to be off the grid!! GD is quality no matter where you look!
