Have a 2024 Silverado 2500 long bed to tow new GD 303rls, and does anybody use diesel fuel cards to save at pump. And if so, which ones.

And can you recommend apps to plan out trip for fuel stops and campgrounds

Thanks in advance

Yep,
TSD Open Roads for fuel
RV Trip Wizard for planning

Never have used the fuel cards. We carry enough fuel we don't have to add fuel until the end of the day, and you can save a whole lot of money just looking for fuel a mile or two away from the interstate. Usually the stations that have the fuel cards tend to be 50 to 75 cents a gallon more expensive than other stations. I've seen a difference of over 75 cents/gallon just crossing the street away from the Love's. I've found the Maverick stations to be about the cheapest, relatively speaking anyway. :)

Maverick is on TSD now, I don’t remember seeing them before. The station in Coeur de Alene is 26 cents less with TSD. You don’t get all of that 26cents due to fees, but you get most of it.

Same here. But it depends on where you travel - not much discount in New England where truck stops are few and far between and then either Pilot or Flying J and they have their own card with Good Sams - whopping .05-.08 cents off their inflated per/gallon price. The trip to Elkhart and back that I just finished (stopping only at Loves truck stops and using the TSD card), average pump price at Waterloo, NY was around $4.40/gal at local stations per Gas Buddy (cheapest was Kwik Fill at $4.31/gal 10 minutes off the highway and 4 pumps and not sure I'd fit under the canopy). The Loves pump price there was $4.49/gal but with the TSD card, I paid $3.79/gal.

Another one is Mudflap for fuel. I’ve used it a few times when there were no TSD Open Roads stations, and it saved enough over the other stations to make it worthwhile.

If you have the payload to spare, a nice addition is an aux fuel tank, that way you aren’t always looking for the next stop.

took the words right out of my mouth.... 2 of the best apps! TDS is only for diesel tho and you have to use the truck lanes. I find it to be the best prices when having to fuel with the RV connected. Someone bad-mouthed Loves, but a lot of times they have better prices than other truck stops.

Also Gas Buddy (someone already recommended that). It's good to shop around; maybe even find diesel a bit cheaper than a truck stop if you are just driving the tow vehicle.

RV Trip Wizard is hand for planning. Not so much for daily routing. I still use an RV GPS for that. The app is handy for a quick look-see of campground locations (near you or not).

TSD fuel card. With the route I want to go, I use the app for the card for planning fuel stops. I also use GasBuddy, but only when I am not towing the trailer. There has been a number of times that TSD has been cheaper in the area I am in, and have drove the truck without the trailer through the truck stop.

I always compare diesel prices with Gas Buddy, Mudflap and TSD. Lately around home, it's been TSD hands down for quite a while. Right now TSD beats everyone by $.32/gallon. I don't count Costco or Sam's since I'm not a member, but it beats them too by about $.27.

I have used Mudflap a few times. It seems they have signed up mostly independents (I have not seen the big guys like Love's take Mudflap).

Frankly, it is a bit of a hassle to use sometimes. You go in, wait in line, tell the clerk you have Mudflap, they hunt around for a tablet, key in your code, then you go back out, pump diesel, go back in, wait in line (sometimes), find the clerk who entered the code into the tablet, they finish the transaction and then you are good to go.

It is not bad if the station is not busy but if they are, not so good.

On the plus side, the app works very well and it is free to use. So if nothing else, you can have it in case better options aren't available.

I also use TSD. Truck lanes work for me since everyone is going in the same direction to and from the pumps, don't have to worry about height restrictions or trailer swings and they have DEF pumps. When TSD is not available I use Costco credit card - get 4% rebate on fuel purchases. Costco has also had the best prices on propane - in my experience. Gas Buddy is good too.

TSD and RV Trip Wizard. You can save an amount more, but it gets to be a lot of research and digging. Some people enjoy that aspect of traveling, and my hat is off to those who make it work.

We have TSD and RV Trip Wizard. Trip Wizard helps me with scheduling of reservation dates. Once I have a reservation, I padlock the dates, which shows me the reservation is done. It also helps find lots of different places to stay in each area. We travel on the smaller highways and rarely on the freeways. A small town city rv park works perfectly for us. I plot larger gas stations and truck stops. You can right click on the trip wizard map and select street view and get a close up wherever needed.
The TSD card lets you use almost any truck stop pump. Going into a gas station that is too small could cost a lot for rv repairs.

TSD is the best deal out there. During covid, I got as much as a $1.00 discount (in Montana I think.) The Open Roads app works good for finding fuel. I pick a place and hit the directions button. That transfers to the screen in my truck. I keep the Garmin RV GPS set to my final location and go from fuel stop to fuel stop using the Open Roads app. If you want to take a look at the app, I don't think you need to login to find fuel. If you do login and tie the app to your card, it will show usage and such. As of right now, the cheapest fuel within a 1 hour drive is $$3.371 in Elkton, MD. In my area, fusion is over $4.00.

I've used Open Roads/TSD for probably nearly 10 years. Discounts vary but routinely it's about $0.30 off where I use it locally and have had instances where it's been well over $1.00 off. Maverik is under contract to TSD and you'll see a discount off their posted prices as well.

TSD Logistics as well. Use it locally without the trailer as the diesel with the discount at the T/A is usually cheaper than local stations. Also use Buc-ees as their diesel price is generally close to the truck stop price after the TSD discount.

Open Roads for sure. The discount basically brings the price in line with the non-commercial lanes. But the convenience of the commercial lanes regarding space, bulk DEF, long handled window washers, pay at the pump, etc., makes it really nice. We live in a rural area where there are no nearby Open Roads truck stops but there are a number of Mudflap options so I use that when not on the road and in areas where Open Roads isn't an option. Also use Gas Buddy to check for prices in areas where neither Mudflap or Open Roads are available (currently throughout Canada and Alaska from what I have found so far).

RV Trip Wizard for planning and organizing trips. iOverlander and Campendium while traveling to find boondocking locations.
