My rig 2024 Grand Design Imagine XLS 22MLE

So I watched a video on YT where the owner of a Grand Design Imagine similar to what I have is stateing that the backup power for the pre wired Furion camera at the back of the rig is always powered from the 12v supply of the RV.

On my Winnebaggo Micro Mini I traded for the 22MLE, the camera power was only on when I connected the 7 pinnector to my truck AND turned on the trucks headlamps.

I have my Furion camera purchased but am waiting to this spring to install it. So can anyone shed some light on if the power for the backup camera comes from the 7 pin or the 12 supply of the rig? The latter being bad as that means the camera is always powered on.

fyi here is the video in question.

Can’t speak for a 24 year model but on our 21, it comes through the umbilical cord and requires the running lights on in the TV.
I'm not sure what year the person in the video has but it is an Imagine and looks like a newer model. He has a photo of his rig at :21 sec mark of my original post link. I can't imagine (no pun intended) that GD would change the enginering to not use the Tow Vehicle connection for the backup camera.

I guess this weekend I'll temporally hook mine up and see how mine works. I was going to wait until this spring just so it would not be exposed to the elements and sunlight even though I have it under a shelter.

I think I'll also send him a message through his channel for clarification. He does have some good info on his channel. I'll report back. Hope mine is like yours using the TV.

Thanks guys. Not sure why Ross is stating his is different. I even re listened to the part where hs says hs is "juiced" all the time. I did ask for clarification in the comments section. Maybe he will respond.

Got a quick reponse:

correct, there is a tiny "power on" light on my camera. Its on now, as the trailer sits in the yard disconnected. there is power plugged into the trailer from the house, but im assuming thats insignificant as its a 12 volt camera, and would be drawing from the battery anyway if the converter was not running. it might have changed though on your camper. definitely worth testing.

Time for the multimeter test this weekend.

We have a 2024 Imagine XLS 22 MLE, and our camera is powered when the running lights are on.

Our previous 2017 Reflection 337 RLS was powered continuously by the unit battery.

I like the running light power better.

Wonder if his is pre-owned and the previous owner changed it?

Haven't seen them "constant on" for several years.

Well MtnGuy, we have the same rig so you've answered my question. :)

Sounds like maybe the previous years models were "constant on" and at some point they went to being powered by the tow vehicle. Not sure when the switchover year was.

My 5.3 liter gas V8 does perfect pulling my '24 Imagine XLS 22 MLE. I seen in your signature you have a F350 diesel. You probably don't even know it's back there.

Great site. Appreciate the responses.

Funny story....I just watched the clip linked in the first post. That is a 2150RB Imagine, and actually one of ours that we sold. Our decal is by the door.

They haven't made the 2150RB in about 5 years, so it is completely plausible that his was wired into the battery and always on.

They have since changed that to work on the running lights.

I owned a 2019 Keystone (bought new) that was incorrectly wired to the camper 12 volt system. I rewired it to the clearance lights. It appears the factory workers just sometimes splice into the wrong circuit.
