Furion Hot Water Monitor - Strange Behavoir

I own a 2024 23G which uses a Furion Hot Water Heater. Everything is working fine, but just recently I noticed a curious behavior.

Under normal conditions
  • Pump is "On"
  • All the hot and cold water (even outside shower) taps are closed
  • hot water heater panel turned "On", set to 111F
  • Display is in idle mode (no temperature displayed)
If I flush the toilet and hold the water on 2-3 seconds, the display on the monitor panel illuminates the "111 F", but the hot water heater does not turn on. Even if I hold the pedal down for 5-10 seconds. The same response if I turn on other cold water taps.

I can only speculate that when the cold is first turned on, a decrease in pressure occurs in both the hot and cold circuits and the Furion controller/pressure sensor are triggered. I will re-iterate, while the monitor illuminates "111F" the hot water heater is NOT firing on.

I'm guessing this is probably normal, but curious if anyone else has ever noticed such a behaviour

Thanks for considering

Obviously opening a cold water tap does not trigger the WATER heater.

Bungy,

Obviously when turning on any cold water tap(on my unit), the Furion Monitor Panel "wakes" up and displays the "set" temperature for the hot water. I clearly reported that the water heater did not fire to try and heat water.

I was not soliciting opinions, but rather asking if anyone had seen this behavior. It is certainly strange

I just noticed this on my 2022 Reflection. I don’t recall seeing it prior to our last outing, and shortly after I descaled the water heater. I suspect that the pressure drop is causing the small turbine of the flow sensor inside the water heater to turn just enough to signal the water heater to wake up. There is a check valve on the hot water output line that may be leaking a little. Just my opinion of course.

Well, I just happened to have a tankless water heater and a spare water flow sensor ready to go in my garage, so I put my theory to the test. It takes very little movement of the turbine/impeller to wake up the water heater display panel. This is not a Furrion, but a very similar tankless water heater. Take a look at this short video.

I've always considered the behavior normal. The pressure switch detects the change in water pressure and activates the panel until the pressure equalizes again. I don't know if it is due to the pressure switch being too sensitive, poor plumbing layout or a combination of the two. The only time we find it bothersome is at night as the controller light is pretty bright. As a result we have gotten in the habit of turning the water heater off when we aren't going to use it.
