Hello I recently purchased a replacement power converter and installed it in my Grand Design Reflection RV. It worked fine for a few days. Now my rv gas furnace surges up and down in rpms when running. So do my rv 12 volt fans. When I turn the breaker off to the converter and just rely on my rv batteries , the furnace and fans run normal without rpms going up and down What is going on?

I really appreciate any advice I can get.

Thank you.

First place to start would be to measure the voltage being produced by the new converter. See if it is fluctuating as well.

Thank you for the quick reply.
The voltage coming from the converter is just under 14 volts. It does not fluctuate even with the furnace and fans on. However, if I connect my rv battery back up the fluctuating starts.

I would echo what has been said and measure the voltage output of the converter/charger with a multimeter. What brand is the replacement converter/charger? Some are (much) better than others.

Here are a few forum posting tips:

1) If you use "Reply With Quote" (to the right of "Reply") as I have here, folks will know to whom you are responding and that person will get a notification.

2) You can also tag folks using the "@" symbol and their user name (as I have done yours) - they'll also get a notification that way.

3) You can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

Note: you'll need to have a paid subscription to add an image to your signature.

Hook your batteries up, turn on a fan and measure the voltage as it is surging, to see if the voltage is rising and falling.

An ammeter would be even better.

This sounds, suspiciously, like a bad converter.

It seems to be failing when it is under the load of charging the batteries.
