furnace won't run

We tried the furnace for the first time this weekend. The blower would come on and the furnace would try to light but would shut down after a few seconds.
Did not try too much as we wanted it only to take the chill off in the morning.
I just got home and have not looked too hard yet.
Just wondering if anyone had an issue and what they found.

Sounds like you are out of propane try a full tank

We have had all kinds of problems with our furnace cycling several times before it will stay lit and it has been back to the dealer several times while they and Attwood have tried to come up with a solution. Cleaning, new flame sensor, new circuit board. The latest attempt involved putting a separate duct into the bedroom. Haven't tried it yet because we haven't had cool enough weather but are keeping our fingers crossed.

Please let us know how this gets solved we all learn from one another

Here is the issue I had with my water heater. It would try and light but acted like no LP. After digging around I found there was oil in the supply line from what appears to be left behind from cutting and tapping the iron pipe that supplies the gas. I unhooked the gas line at its lowest lever and about 2 tablespoons of oil came out. It was enough to hold back the gas. Hooked the line back up and the heater fired right up.

Have you checked to see if the gas line valve is in the On position? Or, as the freds say, there could be a gas line obstruction. If those are ok, there is a flame detector that acts as a safety. When clean and properly positioned the tip sits inside the burner flame. If there's no flame it shuts down the burner. In your case it may be defective, improperly positioned, or slightly dirty. It's not easy to get to in these campers, might be a job for your dealer especially if you're under warranty.

On the assumption that you (or the dealer) never had the furnace running before : since you stated that you didn't try too hard, it could be simply that the propane hasn't made it thru the line yet. I had my tanks off the trailer where I store, and when I headed out a couple weekends ago the fridge didn't work on propane (which I discovered 5 hours later) and it turned out that it was just a matter of the propane working thru the line. Maybe you will be that lucky.

got the unit to run a short period of time before it shut off. did not sound quite right as it sounds like it if vibrating and not running smoothly. have not spent too much time troubleshooting.

Update on our furnace. Finally had some over night temps in the 5 degree C (40F) range and it fired up without a hitch the past two mornings. Think maybe they finally got it.

Got the furnace to run for maybe a minute and then would run maybe 15 seconds. kept this up. Maybe run a minute again. Not sure what is going on. Guess I will take in for service.

Getting the trailer back tomorrow. I was told that the gas flow was the issue. Readjusted and ready to go. Time for fall camping.

I'm having the same issue with the furnace cycling on for a minute then shuts down & then it lights again & runs for another minute or so. After about 6-10 cycles of this it stays lit & does not go out again. I've had a tech trouble shooting this & he believes it may be the electrode/flame sensor. One thing that came up in his trouble shooting was the gas pressure seemed low. He measured & got a reading of 10.25 inches of water column when the specs say it should be 11" of w.c.
He tried to increase the pressure @ the regulator & also switched out the regulator with a new one & both fixes did not improve the water column reading in the gas line. Just wondering jamieline if u were told by the tech what your gas pressure reading was & what the exact fix was... that fixed your gas flow issue.

I was not told what the reading was. I was just told that the pressure was low and they were able to adjust the regulator. I have not checked it out yet.

Our furnace will run on the street side tank but not the curb side. I just swapped the tanks this AM after street side ran out last night, would not run on the curb side. Switched it to street side, works fine. Pigtail, regulator, or other cause? Can regulator be adjusted? Thanks in advance for help and ideas!

Hi Steve,

See this related discussion http://www.granddesignowners.com/fo...ubleshooting-Question/page2?highlight=pigtail . . . but particularly post #13 from Centurion.

Our unit is currently at the dealer with the short cycle issue. Tech says that there is an issue with the furnace high limit switch. There is also a kit coming to re arrange the orientation of the furnace from horizontal to vertical. Meanwhile we are missing our trip to lake placid. This is yet another issue to add to the rediculously long list of issues in just the first summer. The dealer has fixed everything, although GD's quality is disappointing.

Yes very frustrating Rondacker...
The tech was able to get my gas pressure increased to the 11" W.C. but same issue remains with the furnace only running a minute or two & then shutting down & relights again. Does this several (6-10 times) before it will run continuously. Do you have any idea why they suggest reorientating the furnace? Currently they are vertical from the factory right? So are u saying that Atwood recommends both the new limit switch & moving the furnace into the horizontal configuration to fix the short cycle issue?
