Furrion AC Temp Sensor Relocation: Alternative, parts-free method

Ok, I think I got it now. After you cut off the 'room sensor' you attach the two cut wires to the two previously un-used wires and then re-attaching the 'room sensor' to the same two wires at the thermostat. Now I'll have to check my unit and see if I have un-used available? thank you for this tip!

Rewired two controllers in 2610ML

Thank you for this post! I recently installed a second unit in the bedroom on my 2610ML and mounted the controller for it on the opposite side of the wall of the main controller. Each of them were short cycling and not accurately depicting the temperature of the areas. I snipped both sensors and wired them using the extra conductors present. Now, each of the units operate as expected, cooling each area to the set point and making the trailer much more comfortable.

I recently purchased a 2022 Imagine 2910BH. It has 2 Dometic AC units.
Is this an issue with the Dometic models also or just Furrions?
We haven't camped in temperatures above the 80's so far, so are units haven't been pushed too hard.
I was just wondering if I should be on the lookout for this issue.
Thanks,
Glenn

This mod is for Furrion a/c’s. All of our previous RVs had Dometic coolers. We never had a problem with any of them.
The Furrion we have now is another story ?

I was having the same issues as everyone in auto mode so I emailed GD and this is the reply I got.

"With the Furrion a/c they way it is designed to work is you need to have the fan on low or high all the time. Not on Auto. The reason for this is the a/c temp sensor is up in the a/c and the fan needs to run on low or high so that it blows the room temp air over the sensor and then your wall thermostat will read the correct temperature."

I don't think my thermostat has ever read the correct temperature. I will eventually move my sensor as the OP did.

I have a 2024 337RLS. I called Grand Designs warranty support to ask for a solution to this short cycling AC behavior, such as a thermistor relocation kit. They pawned me off to Lippert warranty department who said there was no such thing as a relocation kit and furthermore had no idea if this would work if the thermistor was relocated to the thermostat. I find it hard to believe they are that ignorant about how wall mounted thermostats are supposed to work, but who knows…..

I then bought 2 relocation kits from castlewinch.com and used them to relocate the room temperature thermistors from inside the AC units to inside the thermostats on the walls. This solved the short cycling problems and now my 2 Furrion AC units function properly as you would expect.

I cut the ends off the relocation kit wiring harnesses and connected them to 2 of the unused wires in the GD thermostat wire cable, basically the same as was well demonstrated in the first post. just did this so that I could unplug and reconnect the thermistors back in the factory locations in case I needed a warranty repair to the AC unit.

So yes this thermistor relocation works much better than just poking the thermistor through the AC filter mesh, although that did help a little.

Many thanks to the original poster and all who responded!

I’ve followed this problem in various threads ever since we bought our 2022 (2021 build) 3100RD which had the cursed plenum mounted thermistor issues. At the time, calls to Lippert CS brought no solutions. Their position was “it’s designed that way” and were totally unhelpful, in fact threatened to not honor their warranty if I modified it in any way. Grand Design CS, on the other hand, was sympathetic and sent me two relocation kits (this was before Lippert finally came out with the new thermostat) AND said THEY would stand behind the warranty. The kits solved all the issues with AC and Heat and the Furrion unit now works better than any we’ve had in our prior five trailers. From what I’ve read regarding the new thermostat design Lippert offers, it still requires the AC fan to run continuously. I consider that to be unacceptable. IMO, relocation the sensor to a location at or near the thermostat is by far the best option.

Agreed. And if you install an RV Airflow, you won't have freezing problems running the fan on Auto either. That used to happen on mine a bit.

I did this modification today. It was soooo nice to have the AC actually run and not shut off early. We're going to go on a 10-day trip to some hot weather locations and I didn't want the AC shutting off randomly.

Thanks for this tip!

It's about 4.5 degrees off, I assume because of the impedance of the cables or something. But it being stable is the big thing. I can compensate just by setting it to a different temperature.

I have 2025 2800BH with 2 Furrion units, having similar issues discussed herein. I talked with GD this morning and they told me they are working on a solution with Furrion. They also told me there is not a sensor relocation kit for my units as with previous models.

Thermistor relocation

Thank you, uwskier. I just did the relocation in our 22MLE and it is working great.

I have the same issue with my 2024 22bhe and dealer said it works as it should but it does not. Grand Design had no help when I called last month. I'm curious as to what the solution will be. My unit barely pulls any moisture out of the air because of the short cycling. Over the course of 2 days use I didn't have any condensation coming off the roof like all the other campers around me.

If you're up to the task, this thread IS the fix. Even with the 2024s. The temp sensor in the "thermostat" ONLY works when the heat is on. That temp sensor does nothing when in AC mode. Not sure why Furrion hasn't fixed this yet. Been a problem going on 3 years now.

Seems like a lot of people are contacting GD about this, so hopefully this may push Furrion more to come up with a solution. I'm going to wait and see if they come out with a solution in the near future, and if not I will modify mine like this thread instructs once I'm out of warranty next year. I'd hate to modify it and have something go wrong with the AC (not due to the modification) and then have them deny warranty because I made a change to it.

I did a bit of a MacGyver for now and just pushed the sensor through the filter cover putting it in between the filter and faceplate. Definitely going to relocate it at some point 15’ away in the living area ( the furrion chill he 15 just got added to the bedroom prep - 297RSTS).

Need a little help...We are in a 2025 model with the Furrion AC's. I'm not finding the extra wires in the AC. Any ideas?
