I bought a new Grand Design Imagine 21BHE a few weeks ago. I was looking at the solar controller and noticed it has an error on the screen. I checked the owners manual for the controller and saw the error means “Abnormal Battery Voltage detected.” (See Page 23). I’ve attached a photo of the controller with the error, but I’m not sure how to fix it. Any tips to resolve this?

Thank you!

Some folks over at our FB page have reported a couple of issues with this unit. Not sure if any of these are associated, but it may give you some place to start.

1) The unit is wired incorrectly (top issue)
2) The unit is defective (quite a few in this category).
3) Battery may be the issue (I would disconnect the battery and check the voltage and amps under load).

Since your unit is new you have two options.....Up to you! Talk with the dealer where you purchased for a warranty service call OR reach out to Grand Design directly via their customer service. Be prepared to share any information or results that you reached along with photos. I found them super helpful and willing to assist. If you are handy...they might even send you a replacement to install once the issue has been identified?

Thank you - I disconnected the solar & battery cords for 30 mins and reconnected them. That seemed to do the job.

Thank you for the reply!

I am having the same issue with unit I have had for 2 months. I am wondering if it has anything to do with running off generator for short period of time?

Yes, generator power is not always the same as AC from the grid. Disconnecting the unit as suggested by the OP may help.

I had to put a trickle charger on the battery, voltage must of been too low (2.5V) for the charge controller.
