A member’s 2023 17MKE Furrion oven pilot would light but would not stay lit when switching from pilot to a temperature setting, while the stovetop worked normally. Members suggested possible causes including a finicky lighting sequence, thermocouple alignment, a bad gas valve, lack of Furrion repair parts, and the effect of camping around 7,000 feet elevation.

Me and the wife were out for a few days at a resort in the eastern Sierra’s. She brought a frozen pizza but we couldn’t get the oven to light up. The trailer, a 17MKE is a 2023. We had wifi so I saw on the net that the pilot gas line was known for being loose which would cause low gas at the pilot. Mine wasn’t loose but I got a little movement on it. Prior to this we used the oven one time. I also read that Furrion doesn’t sell parts for ovens. Like thermocouples etc. I figure I have a bad thermocouple or a bad gas valve. It’s annoying but we rarely use the oven. I held the pilot gas on for well over 2 minutes but it still wouldn’t stay lit. The stovetop works like a champ, it’s only the oven. Has anyone else had this issue with a Furrion oven?

My wife has a lot of trouble lighting the oven. It’s finicky.
I have success by setting the oven to the right position and then keep turning the starter until you’ve got flame. Then, carefully rotate the oven control to get the gas flowing and the burner on. Finally, rotate to the temp you need.

The pilot drops out when I turn the gas from pilot to any regular setting. The knob is keyed in that you have to let the knob spring back in the pilot position before you can turn the gas up. It drops out as soon as you do that. You’re able to keep yours pushed in while turning it? Maybe our ovens are different if so.

We had a Furrion range in our Jayco. It lit a time or two normally. Sometimes you would have to hold it for minutes for it to light. Sometimes it would not light at all. I pulled it out and put it on a bench and nothing I found on the internet would make it work consistently. And as you found out, there are no parts available. I bought a Chinese range from Amazon for about $350 and it never caused a problem. I don't know why manufacturers still use Furrion.

I had the same issue with the Furron oven in my 297rsts a couple of years ago. The pilot would light but would not stay lit after releasing the knob. I adjusted the thermocouple to make sure it was in the pilot flame and haven't had an issue since

Yeah I don’t get why they use Furrion considering you can’t fix things like a bad thermocouple. So your rangetop oven can be trashed over a common part used in ovens.

I have to have another look. Not a lot of room to get hands in there and the bottom plate looks like it’s screwed to the sides underneath the plate. Like if you get the screws out it might be tough to put them back in. Visually from the front it looks like the Tcouple is in the flame but may not be ideally aligned.

What was your altitude?

High altitudes can affect LP pressures dramatically.
About 7000’. My house is about 4500’ and the trailer is stored down the street. Next week I’ll head over there and have another look at it.

Yeah, could be the issue.

Here's a Google blurb..."At 7,000 feet elevation, propane appliances lose efficiency and may experience burner outages, yellow flames, or soot buildup. This happens because the air is thinner and has roughly 20% to 25% less oxygen than at sea level, creating a rich fuel-to-air mixture. Many appliances require a high-altitude orifice change (derating) for proper combustion"

Thankfully, the 12 volt refers eliminated the issues with LP on them at high elevations.

We had the Furrion oven in our 2018 303RLS, could not get it to stay lit. Had a tech look at it and was told it was a bad gas valve, Furrion had a batch of bad valves...but guess what, they did not sell parts, only option was a new oven. OK, sprang for that at $1500 or so but the new oven could never get to temperature above 300. Ended up getting rid and replacing with an electric range...what a difference. Furrion, owned by Lippert, is a disastrous brand in my opinion.

Yeah I’m not impressed with Furrion so far. If GD was my company and a vendor wanted to sell me appliances with no spares available I wouldn’t do business with them. This is my 1st travel trailer. After reading through the forum and searching for info on the net about issues it seems that when you buy a RV you should assume you’ll need to upgrade some equipment. And on the other hand, if an RV company installed better equipment then sales would drop because the prices would go up.

We left a couple of things in the trailer so I paid it a visit today. The oven lit right up which is good because that means it works. @huntr70 you were right the altitude caused it not make the thermocouple set point. So I will see if I can improve it by moving the thermocouple as suggested by @srobins. Most of our camping is in the mountains so unless I can make it work at altitude it’s pretty much useless.

Would you mind sharing what range you bought? We are having this same dumb issue and Furrion basically said “best of luck to ya” because it is out of warranty

We got a CONTOURE RV 3-Burner Drop-In Gas Range 17” – Propane-Powered from Amazon. It is no longer available. The CONTOURE in RV Drop-In Gas Range with Oven, 3 Burner Propane for $379.00 looks the same except for being all black. They do have thermocouples on the top burners so you have to hold the knobs in for a short while after lighting them. That is an EXTRA safety feature not available on the Furrion. Amazon now also sells a CONTOURE Rapid Cook but I don't know anything about it.

Your problem at altitude is the air/fuel mixture. In order for it to work properly you need to figure a way to reduce the gas for the amount of fuel available. Which would be a different pilot orifice...which I doubt Furrion offers. Back a number of years manufacturers of absorption fridges offered different orifices for the fridge gas burner but I don't remember for ovens.
You could perhaps heat the thermocouple with a bbq lighter until the main gas functions? The bbq lighter in effect being your pilot for a while. Not sure if on your oven the main flame would satisfy the thermocouple to keep the main burner on?
You may end up doing some research and looking for an oven that works at altitude and replacing.

Redneck workarounds exist.... But....altering gas systems carries with it potential safety issues

We have a new 250ML not sure if it's the same stove. If you have a top burner lit, lighting the stove is a problem. The manual says it's a logo. We have used it at 10k and 8k and now 7k. The lighting mechanism is different than the stove top. After the pilot is lit you release the oven and turn to the desired temp. Whereas on the stove you hold it in place and turn. That being said we often have to release the oven and try again. It does OK with pizza but I'm bummed it doesn't have options for lower temps.

Lippert supplies most of the RV industry. The quality of their products is scandalous.

Generally I think Lippert products are good, but they bought a massive dud with Furrion!
