Gas versus Diesel - Maintenance.

One mans floor is another mans ceiling. There really shouldn’t be a gas vs diesel debate. It’s simply a matter of what you want to tow with.

If you tow heavy and want a diesel but don’t want the added purchase price and added maintenance cost, you will be the person going to a diesel AFTER you have run with a gas truck for a while. You’ll eventually realize you should have purchased what you wanted in the first place.

If you are towing a lighter trailer and rarely go through the Rockies at high elevation you’ll likely be just fine with a gas truck.

Well said. Thanks for that insight.

I originated this thread because folks with gas trucks always claimed they had/have fewer maintenance issues and lower cost. It really made no sense to me but I always smile and say I WANTED a diesel for its abilities.

My neighbor sums it up well. He always wanted a gas truck because didn’t want the cost and complexities of diesel. He has been towing a 30’ travel trailer with his RAM 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi since 2016. This year he got a 2022 RAM 2500 with the Cummins. He finally got tired of going through the mountains here in the West with his gas truck screaming at 4-5K RPM in the slow lane up those big hills and likewise going down with nothing more than engine breaking.
He also got tired of always looking for a gas station.

We camp together all the time so I always ask him how it towed compared to last year. You can guess what his answer is :)
