I tried sleeping on the fold out couch. The bar in the bed was uncomfortable, I bought a piece of foam to lay over top, but storing was a problem. I thought about a blow up mattress but passed. It is just me and the wife but wanted a comfortable other bed. Which I think I will use, as she likes the bedroom cold and a fan blowing. So now we will have the ability to sleep separately if we choose too, or room for one.

I removed the fold out couch and built a 2x6 frame on the floor and topped it with 1/2 plywood. That gave it a height of 6 inches, the mattress is 14 inches. So it can be used for seating or sleeping. I used a twin extra long mattress, 38X80 inches. I removed one end table. The 38-inch wide mattress will hit the slide outs on one end when closing. So I installed some flush d-rings in the 1/2 inch plywood and 2 hooks above on the cabinets, So I can stand up mattress when traveling.

Will try to post pictures

I forgot to say that I used the back cushions from the fold out. The cushion in the middle is from material from the seat of the fold out. I made it myself and by no means a seamstress, but it will do for now

Hey there nice idea! Is the frame 2 feet (24 inches) x 6 feet? If so, doesn't the mattress hang over by 14 inches (38x80). Thank you for sharing...

No, I built the frame out Of 2x6 wood. Could not make it the full 38-inch wide because of retracting slide out would hit it, The frame is 35 inches wide and the mattress hangs over 3 inches. The length is 80 inches, I removed one of the end cabinets.
I do have to stand the mattress up when traveling. And installed 2 flush d-ring in the 1/2 inch platform and 2 small eye hooks in the cabinet above. So when I stand the mattress up, I have a light cord to tie it off to keep it upright
