Hi All,
Newbie to Grand Design. Thanks in advance for your patience and help.
Just purchased a 30G to be picked up in Spring after weather breaks.
Current TV is an 2017 F250 6.2 Gas. Trailer is a Vengence 25V9985 GVWR. Been cross country over rockies 5 times now with NO issues.
I know this is underspec for the 30G when the trailer is loaded, so I'm looking to upgrade. Yes, I hear the adage that you can never have too much truck, but lets keep this reasonable. Unlikely I'll go bigger or 5th wheel.
My use is at least annual cross country trips over the rockies, loaded with at least a Harely and golf cart.
Based on reading and listening to advice posted, my thoughts are as follows -
New or near new F350 SRW, 7.3 Gas - Crew Cab, Short Bed. (Will a long bed handle significantly better negating the downside of turning radius and in town driving w/o trailer)
Gas vs Diesel just based on cost and simplicity of maintenance and repair. My current Gas has been flawless. Up and down the passes the performance has been more than sufficient for me.
I like the F450 DRW due to the improved turning radius (and Diesel), but that just seems like too much truck/cost to justify.
Lastly, I'm leaning toward the True Tow Heavyweight – Weight Distribution Hitch - Spring Bar spec is 18,500# .. .least available on the heavy duty. (Middle weight is too low at 12,500#)
Looking for some comments on TV and hitch real world experience from from those with a 35 ft +/- TT, 13,000 GVWR.
