GD Plumbing Issue - Be Aware!

To My Fellow GD Owners:

My wife and I have been full-time RVing in our 2021 Imagine 2970RL for the past 2+ years. I have leaned on you all in the GD forum several times in the past for troubleshooting, replacement parts #'s, hacks, etc. and wanted to contribute/share our most recent problem and incident also brought to GD's attention.

On Saturday, we woke up to the sound of running water flooding our sealed underbelly. The underbelly cover bursted before we got a chance to shut the water off causing several gallons of filtered water to spill out on the ground. The weight of the water tore the cover the entire width of RV and down both sides. After waiting for the site to dry, we determined that a 3/4" pvc water hose was improperly clamped to 1/2" pex tee fitting going up to the bathroom and broke loose from pressure/bad connection. How this was allowed and passed inspection by GD is truly baffling and frustrating. I brought to their attention via email yesterday and awaiting their response.

To fix the plumbing issue, I bought a 3/4" to 1/2" coupler reducer and used small section of 1/2" pex from the tee to coupler to make the new connection. There was not enough slack in the pex lines to be able to swap out the tee with the correct fitting.

To temporarily fix the underbelly cover, I unscrewed the existing self tap screws/washers from where the cover had torn away from on the sides. I was able reuse most of the same screws to reinstall the cover offsetting about 4 inches from the previous holesets. For the tear across the width, I patched with butyl tape to temp close the gap and order specialty tape off Amazon designed to adhere to the underbelly cover material.

Hope this information helps for those who want to be on the lookout for same design flaw from the factory or also allow anyone to drop a comment about their experience in the matter.

Sorry it happened, but the plumbing issue isn’t new by any stretch.

We turn our water off when we aren’t at the camper or are sleeping.

Not so much sleeping, but we do shut all utilities (but electric) off when away from RV while touring over night.

Sounds about par for the course when it comes to RV's...but it is always disappointing. As you start working your way through the RV you can install shut off valves at each faucet, replace some of those plastic pieces with metal, replace some vinyl tubing with Pex, etc. Or, just wait and do it as things fail over the years. But that is part of the RV life.

Put water leak detectors around every water source.
They are cheap and they work very well.

Welcome, Hadleys. We've been full-timing for 10 years now, the last almost two years in this Reflection. We always run off of our fresh water tank, dumping and filling as needed. This amuses some of our neighbors, who wonder why we don't just leave the hoses connected. The answer is that, in case of a burst pipe or other leak, the most water that will be lost is whatever is in the tank. While 50 gallons is still quite a bit of water, it is nothing compared to what might run out should we be connected to the public water system. We also don't leave the pump on unless we're actually using water. Yes, I turn the pump on when I start doing dishes and don't turn it off again until I'm done drying them, but, then, I'm actually present in the trailer and would hear the pump coming on when it wasn't supposed to be on.

The path to get water from the faucet into the trailer is this: a vacuum breaker is attached to the two-way splitter, which goes onto the campground faucet. A white hose goes from that to an adjustable pressure regulator, then to a two-stage filter, then to the water softener, then another white hose takes the water into the fresh water tank.

Isn't taking the coroplast down and putting it back up so much fun? (not).
