I use a low-cost electric wench from my shop rafters as others have noted. I can drop in my B&W companion hitch assembled right into the pucks. No lifting or maneuvering. I also load/unload my 225 lb Yamaha generator the same way with the electric wench and drop it in the bed of the truck. I have no need to remove these items while I am traveling so the wench at home works awesome for me and provides lots of versatility.
Good solution if you have a garage that is accessible. Unfortunately for me, my garage is inaccessible for the truck - I have a below grade garage (bi-level home) and the door not high enough or wide enough for the truck. So I have to find another method. I also want something that does not take up too much space. I have seen hitch mounted hydraulic lifts but they are bulky. The in-bed option seems the best. I know it is “cheap” but for my purposes it will meet my needs. If it wears out in 3-4 years I will replace it with another one.
