The lightest current GD seems to be the 22RK. GVWR of 9995. Roughly 20% of that supported by the truck, so 1999 lbs. Oops, you're already over, without the hitch itself. The truck sticker weight is for when it left the factory floor - so anything added after also subtracts from that: Dealer added running boards, bed liners, floor mats, better tires, tools, dangling dice from the mirror, old french fries, etc. Not sure about RAM, but Ford does allow for full gas and a 150 lb driver.
The 22RK empty weight is 6930, and GD says the pin weight when empty is 1086 (15.6%). No trailer, ever, was delivered at the factory empty weight - they all come in over. And that 15.6% is absurdly low compared to what most actually come in at as a % of actual weight.
Packing very light, with no liquids aboard, you might be around 8,000 lbs. And if lucky only 18% on the pin. Plus 100 for the hitch. So 1540. Leaving 290 for passengers/dogs, and all the other stuff in/on the truck.
Going above is the great unknown. Too many factors to tell you whether it is safe or unsafe. Nobody will likely ever catch you, but if it did come out after an accident, you know where the lawyers will land....
Others seem to do it, but I wouldn't.
All trucks can pull. Many just can't carry.
I have a 2024 Ram 1500 limited 4x4 with air bags, 3.92 gear ratio, hemi v8 Etorque, with an 1840 payload capacity and 11,500 tow capacity. Thoughts on how it would do? My concern is 1840 payload capacity would put me at max level with pin weight and extra cargo? Dangerous to be running cross country with that much weight on the vehicle?
I agree. Not anymore. Our first 5th was a 1993 21' Jayco. It lived fine behind our 1/2 ton. But..as someone posted earlier...5'ers have gained a lot of weight and length over the years. In my opinion, there is no such animal as a 1/2 towable fifth wheel. Go with a travel trailer or get more truck if you want a fifth wheel.

Not a 5ver but sameish........ Scamp makes a mid size pickup gooseneck camper, single axel. Pricey, even for the base, much more pimped out, but still not a bumper pull. I have been to the plant in MN. For me its a beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but all are solid rigs.
A company in Texas makes a conversion to make a bumper pull into a legal gooseneck towing rig. Not cheap at all, but if a person wants to go that route for personal reasons, its out there. So, although a play on words. It opens up quite a bit of options, skipping the cost, to a person wanting to gooseneck tow a TT.
Anyone have experience towing a half ton fifth wheel with a half ton truck? What’s been your experience regarding weight and capability of your tow vehicle?
Thats good payload. My 2015 ram 2500 6.7 cummins regular cab 4x4 had a payload of exactly 2,500lbs.All Ford F-150's aren't created equal. Ours has the HDPP and the door sticker cargo capicity is 2513 lbs. So, there can be a lot of difference from truck to truck........
