I have a 2021 momentum 397 has a heat pump how does it switch to furnace automatic the other morning it was 28 and heat pump was still running did not switch to furnace had to do it manually what I'm missing

That has happened to me once also. Woke up cold and had to manually set the thermostat to furnace even though the AC fan was still running - just not able to heat. I don't know what brand thermostat/ACs you have but my Coleman with AirXcel thermostat is confusing. Sometimes it shows heat elec and heat gas separately, but sometimes elec and gas are on the same display as an option to run both - it isn't consistent.

@David54 That's a completely different set up than mine operated by a small wall thermostat but my elec option is the heat pump and gas is the furnace. As @coglesby says, the furnace should come on to assist.

I have a 2021 397 as well. The keyword is "should" on the auto switchover. However, I have woken up freezing several times over the past 4 1/2 years of living full time in it. I've learned just to keep an eye on the low temps, if they are going to drop below 45 or so, I switch to gas so I wake up warm and cozy. Heat Pump does not work well at those lower temps.

Yep just what mine does but as long as it is 30 or above it works fine anything below that is cold when you get up. Thanks David

I have a '21 Solitude with the Coleman Mach AC/Heat Pump - so I'll assume it's the same unit. First things first - the heat pump heat function should not be used below 45 degrees - this is in the owner's manual. The unit will likely freeze up and you will just be blowing ambient air - and the heat/cooling unit should be shut off and allowed to 'thaw out'. It can damage the unit. It's also not really 'automatic' on the thermostat. If the 'set temperature' is within 5 degrees of the actual ambient temperature - it will only call for the roof heat pump when you have it on the 'electric' setting. If the 'set temperature' is more than 5 degrees below the actual ambient temperature - then the thermostat will call for heat from both the roof AND the gas basement furnace. To give you an example: Actual Temp = 65, you set your thermostat to 68 = roof heat pump only. Actual Temp = 65, you set your thermostat to 72 = both roof and furnace will come on.

When set on heat electric, My furnace automatically comes on if the temperature inside gets 5 degrees below set point so if set at 70 if the temperature gets below 65 the furnace comes on automatically to assist. I wish it was 3 degrees because 5 degrees is just too much

My Colemans and AirXcel thermostat have worked well. There is no reference to minimum ambient temperature for the heat pump in my owners manual though I have had the heat pump running down to mid-30s with the fireplace as the sole source of heat. The AirXcel thermostat regulates heat pump lock out and calls to furnace and is detailed in the AirXcel manual. If I turn the fireplace off when we hit the sack the furnace call will be made by the thermostat as documented in the AirXcel manual. I also have three different displays on the thermostat depending upon temperature differential - Elec only (but it will make the call to gas and change the display if lockout occurs), Gas only, and Elec & Gas. Unless dry camping, most nights we are running heat pump and fireplace only with my thermostat set to 65F. I have the AirXcel manual should anyone be interested.

. Ine has no elictric setting my heat pump will work down to mid 30s or 32

As mentioned, mine is different - no display just a wall thermostat which I'm now glad I have (this was replaced under warranty but you can see the choices) and has worked very well for us.thermostat.jpg
