Hitch or Pin box for better towing

I am looking at upgrading to a 303RLS or 337RLS. Truck is in the works.

When I am looking at hitch and pin box for a smoother ride is one different than the other when it comes to a more stable ride? Or would I look into a combination of both to get a better ride?

I am sure it is fine to have whatever the Dealer puts on either if I was a weekend camper but we plan on going full time.

I have only pulled with two different 5th wheel hitches so I can't tell you what is best, but I can tell you I'm really happy with my B&W Companion hitch. The other hitch was what a dealer put on and it was a bit 'loose' so to speak. Clunking when accelerating, stopping etc. None of that with the Companion. Plus the B&W tilts side to side as well, my other one didn't which made unhitching and hitching a challenge sometimes.

We had our Rhino Box changed out before pickup with the Reese Goosebox. Had them on previous rigs and like them. Smooth ride, very little chucking, no heavy hitch to get out of the bed when you need it.

I went with the Curt Crosswing for a hitch that didn't cause me to break my back and didn't void the frame warranty.

I have a 337 and use the Anderson Ultimate 5th wheel hitch and am happy with it. It only weighs around 50 something pounds and is easy to remove.

Since your going full time, how much are you going to be removing the hitch?
I had a Reese 16k on my previous two 5th's. It was a real PIA to unhitch from the trailer & snapped off a one-inch grade eight bolt to the head. They probably have improved on them now as it is about ten years old (it's behind the shed if anybody want to buy it:)).
I now have a B&W Companion & have had no issues for the past five years. Hitching and unhitching is a breeze. Breaks down in two pieces if you want to pull it out of the truck.

If you are going to full time with a lot of travel, I would get a long bed and an air hitch to remove as much shock as possible to the trailer frame. While the trailer frame is thanking you, you are also the recipient of a better ride.

I have been researching the Crosswing myself. How do you like it? Any problems hitching or unhitching?

So far I like it a lot. Never any issues hitching or unhitching. Since the mounting piece that goes on the kingpin rotates freely I can basically hook up at any angle I need to. I did have to upgrade my Morryde Rubber pin box sjid plate to the heavier reinforced skid plate kit that Morryde uses for the Andersen hitches but other than that it has been great so far.

May I ask where you purchased it from?

Any brand air hitch is a giant leap beyond a solid hitch. AirSAfe or TrailerSaver you won't be unhappy you spent the money. For what a new RV costs now its chump change. I use the 4 air bag 25K Airsafe

Long bed truck.....Lippert Trail Air pin box ....and air bags on the rear of the truck and you will be golden. Setup works awesome for all towing conditions.

Yes, we are going with the 8ft bed and would prefer to have it permanently mounted. I will have to research the different air hitches.

I purchased mine from PartsEngine. This is a Canadian supplier though. I would do a internet search for best price. I think you will have lots of options in the US, many more than I had here in Canada.

Another vote for the Trailair (now Curt, a Lippert company). We are about to switch out our Morryde rubber pinbox for the Curt Flex Air pinbox. We have a short bed so a Pullrite slider. With a long bed, you have more options for the hitch.

I second the earlier B&W Companion hitch. I had originally planned on going the direction of the Andersen but wanted to stick with a traditional king pin set-up given my experience with big trucks. We have a MORyde pin box and have had no issues with chucking. It really is a smooth ride.

The Companion hitch is still heavy, I normally just leave it in the truck since the truck mostly stays in the garage. But it really isn’t too hard to get out or install which I do by myself.

I know some folks mentioned airbags and the like, I had considered that but my truck actually levels out with the trailer attached. So I didn’t see the need. One thing I would recommend is to go watch Josh The RV Nerd’s YouTube videos about the frame “flexing” issue. It may be insightful in your setup.

Looks like you're getting plenty of advice. We tow a 2019 303RLS with a 2020 GMC 2500 standard bed using a B&W hitch and the factory pucs. The pin box is a MORryde. We have no issue with chucking or any slop in the setup in 25,000 miles and the only maintenance is some grease points on the hitch. The hitch has a small footprint in the bed and comes apart in two pieces for reasonably easy removal.

We love our fifth wheel and have had no issues with it going on five years. I did change the fridge to a 15CF residential as the 12CF Dometic LPG/120V just would not cool adequately in any weather on gas or electric. We mostly dry camp but with a good inverter, stout lithium battery bank and rooftop solar with a back up Westinghouse generator in the truck bed, we've never had a power issue.

Our 337rls connects to our GMC 2500 HD via the B&W pin box and Andersen Ultimate set up.
It tows so smoothly that our shampoo bottle doesn't topple off the corner shelf in our shower when we travel 200 miles! I don't know about the others, but am happy with ours.

I also went with the GooseBox, very happy with it. I use my truck at home so not having to take a hitch out of the bed is great.
