We are shopping for a 2018 2800BH and asking dealers for out the door pricing. But we need the anti-sway hitch too. It's getting hard to compare prices when everyone offers a different hitch. It looks like a lot of "Imagineers" like blue ox sway pro (no one is offering this brand in their pricing). So I'm thinking buy the hitch now, take it out of the equation. and just shop for the trailer separately. Does this make sense?
Our first trailer purchase.....previously had a Starcraft Pop-up.

It makes perfect sense. I purchased my Blue Ox Sway Pro on my own. Then I took it to the dealership and one of the technicians installed it while I supervised....

I told my selling dealer what type of hitch I wanted and he sold it to me for his cost and installed it. Not sure the brand makes much of a difference on the lighter trailers, so if he makes you a good deal on his store brand and will install it free, I would consider it. The WD hitches all seem to be similar. Just match it up with the trailer weight for the best ride.

I now have the Blue Ox and really like it. It has the sway control built in. There is no need to remove a separate sway control device prior to backing up your trailer. Yes, there are numerous brands out there, but some require a separate sway control, and some have it built in. Depending on how heavy a truck you’re pulling it with makes a differance. The lighter your truck, the better W/D & sway control you will need. The Blue Ox is a good middle of the road price wise hitch that performs well.

I have a Blue Ox Sway Pro that I have used on several trailers. It works as advertised and is the easiest hitch I have ever had to set up. If you get one you will not be disappointed. Just make sure you get heavy enough bars (error on the high side). The Blue Ox bars are made to flex. If you get bars that are too light you will not be able to transfer enough weight to the front axle and the tongue will be a little bouncy.

Getting a hitch which minimizes sway is very important especially with light weight trailers. They can be impacted by wind. Also, I want to backup the trailer without disconnecting the anti-sway bars. There have been a number of occasions when I needed to backup at gas stations and shopping areas. I really like the Blue Ox hitch. It is easy to connect and has done well in heavy winds.

I've read good things about the Blue Ox, sounds like a great option. One other worth the look is the Equal-i-zer. I had one with my last TT and was very pleased. You may read about how noisy they are. While there is truth to this, it is only at very low speeds while turning, and it can be addressed with nylon jackets (sold separately of course).

Equal-i-zer is what I used on our TT, liked how easy it was to hook up. Like Keebler said it was a little noisy at the low speeds. Didn't know about the nylon jackets. . . .
