My stepson is looking at a SOB (2021 Jayco 236TH) 28' bumper pull toyhauler. It comes with a Husky Center Line hitch. I know it's not a super duper hitch, but should it work for him? 7500 lbs. GVWR trailer, he has a 1500 Chevy with sufficient payload for the 900-1000 lbs. tongue weight and supplies carried in the truck. The trailer is in excellent shape, and priced decently.

I've never pulled a bumper pull bigger than a big popup. Extensive distance traveling is not on the table at the present time. Just curious if this will be a decent hitch for the truck and trailer? I haven't seen the payload sticker, but he swears it won't be an issue with 1000 lbs. of tongue weight.

Any and all opinions appreciated. TIA.

i had one with my old trailer, a 297RSTS. I had a 2015 GMC 1500 which pulled it with no problem.

On my last TT, which had a GVWR of 10K lbs, I had the Husky. It worked well, and I had no problems with it, no sway. About the only negative thing I can say, is after putting some miles on it, there is no sneaking out of a campground, it will get noisy on turns, and no real way to remedy it. No problems backing up with it still attached.

I have used one for about 30,000 miles and no sway and no problems. I have ~850# on the tongue. Besides being noisy sometimes, it "sticks" when you turn sharply (like pulling out onto a road). You get used to turning it in the other direction (kind of wag the trailer) to make it track straight. It will eventually straighten out on its own after a mile or two but with a half ton I can tell there is some bias in the steering. The only maintenance is to retorque the main 2 bolts (I check it once a year) and there are a couple spots you can lube if you want (do a google search). As was mentioned, the spots that you are not suppose to lube probably are making the most noise so nothing you can do.
