After exhausting searches and not finding a reseal kit for the leaking leg, I decided to pull it apart and identify all the different seals needed. Not much to lose. If I couldn't find the parts, I'd have to buy a $700 leg.

Make sure to mark your hoses. Disassembly was easy enough. The only odd part is the piston. it has a set screw under the wear ring. When I removed the screw the rod threads were a little damaged. I lightly ran the same size drill into the hole to "kiss" the threads and then the piston unscrewed from the rod.

You need the piston off for installing the lower plate with the really stiff seal. It can pull off the pad end but wont go back on same way, the seal lip is opposing that direction.

The stiff blue rod seal needs to be bent into a kidney shape to get it in. You'll figure that out. A tool is available from McMaster Carr

Seals were purchased from McMaster Carr, Alegheny York and Harbor Freight.

I used the Harbor Freight metric assortment in the blue box for all small diameter seals.

The new wear ring is diagonal split. The piston seal is called a T seal. I can only attach 10 pics.

Gosh - nice write up, good post! Thanks!!

I guess the first steps are removing the bottom part of the jack (the lower plate? figure 15.jpg)?

Then remove the top part (that contains the hose connections)?

Then you have to unscrew the wear ring to get the piston out?

Sorry - not sure why the silver looking piece screwed onto the piston has to be remove to just replace the seals on that part.

I'm thinking of ordering the parts to keep as a repair kit. So thanks again.

oh - if you need/want to post more photos, it is always OK to make another post with those. We don't have a problem with that.

"not sure why the silver looking piece screwed onto the piston has to be remove to just replace the seals on that part"

you need to slide the bottom plate on from the piston side of the rod. The rod seal lip is opposing the rod if you try to slide bottom plate on from its original position. The top of the rod under the piston is tapered and helps to align the seal. Hope that makes sense

Are these PNs listed for the 8K mid/rear levelers or the 14K Front LG?

The pistons are larger on the front LG compared to the mid/rear levelers
