Ideas to quiet the water pump

Long time no talk. I haven't chatted on this site in about a year. We've had our rig for almost a year, but never had a need for the water pump until recently. I was surprised how much noise it makes. Does anyone have any easy ideas to make it quieter? Thanks! Paul

My water pump is very loud at first, but I've found that if I let the water run for about 60 to 90 seconds it quiets down, and is quieter on subsequent use. Not sure if the noise is caused by air in the lines or what, but it works for me.

I remounted mine on better dampeners and moved it slightly so it wasn't touching any loops in the PEX tubing. I think two were in direct contact with it causing some of the noise. Much better now.

I was just going to suggest something similar to what Jim said. On HVAC units, my cousin (who does it for a living) uses rubber iso(lation) pads. They work great for attic installations removing any vibration. They come in strips and you can cut the little squares out.

I tried different padded mounts, different locations, still factory unit just to loud. I finally swapped it out with a Max Flow 3.3 GPM pump.... what a huge difference! Also got some foam pipe insulation installed on the lines to and from the pump to keep the vibration down and that helped even more..... now I have to stop and listen to see if it’s working is so quiet.....

I want to throw out a concept that helps identify plumbing leaks if they occur. If you can hear the water pump when not using any fixture, you have a leak that needs to be addressed ASAP. Listening to the pump and the pitch of it when opening a faucet helps identify plumbing problems.

Very true, I want to be able to hear the pump running so I know if there is a problem. Of course it doesn't need to be so loud it disturbs the neighbors

Yes you are correct, if the pump is cycling with out anything opened then you have a leak and hearing the pump helps identify that problem, but I just didn’t like the floor vibrating when the pump kicks on.... so I attempted to quiet it as much as I could and found this new set up much more user friendly.

In my plumbing system rebuild, I quieted the original pump with softer mounts and soft rubber hoses to and from the pump. I have done this with different pumps on different boats and it has always worked well. The OE pump is now just a quiet hum. See the attachment to post 1.
