This Friday we picked up our new 2024 Inagine 2800BH. We love it. I don’t, however love this issue. We left the dealership and arrived at the our campsite for the first night and set up everything but the sewer. We used our shower x3, washed dishes, brushed our teeth etc. In other words, we added waste water to all sinks/tanks. The next morning (Saturday) I went to connect my sewer hose and removed the sewer cap only to have a rush of water come out onto me. Not fun. Also included in this were 2 or 3 small bits of plastic about the size of a quarter. Aside from gross, I assumed it was maybe water and antifreeze from manufacturing. We left the campsite and travelled home. On arrival I again opened the sewer cap and more water came out. At this point the tanks should have been empty except there was only 5 gallons of fresh water that I added to my black tank after dumping the tanks at the campsite along with a tank treatment. I don’t know if it was residual water from the galley or the BT. Looking for some suggestions. Thank you.

Probably a silly question but are your tank valves shut?
When we picked up our pre owned camper, the dealer left the valves open. And I experienced the same thing you did.

Fair question. I wondered that myself. I double checked and confirmed they are as closed as possible.

Put one of these on the end: https://www.amazon.com/Valterra-T58-Twist-On-Waste-Valve/dp/B000BGHYJS, problem solved.

Definitely would want to fix that under warranty. The dealers almost always leave the tanks open while on the lot, and if they don't think to close them for delivery. The recommendation from Bungy is also a good one, but if those valves aren't working from the get go I'd want them fixed whether I did it myself or brought it back in.

There will be some residual water in the pipes after you dump the tanks. However it should only be a slight amount. If you got a BIG surprise like I did that would tell me you have some leaking valves. I installed one of the valves bungy suggested just to not have that little bit of residual water come out when I take the cap off.

I spoke with a local GD dealership and was told this is common in units with a separate galley tank. The problem is they are plumbed in to one sewer and the slope is just not enough to sometimes fully empty the grey water.

It was a big enough surprise. I think everything is holding water so I believe all seals are holding. I did some tests by adding a few gallons at a time to each sink and the toilet while the cap was off just to see if water escaped and nothing came out. Was just curious if any other 2800 owners experienced this. Apparently the slope from the galley to the sewer is just barely sufficient and sometimes residual water doesn’t property drain and/or takes a longer time.

If they put enough of a slope on the tube to completely drain it the complaint then would be that it is too low.

I'd like to install that valve recommended by "Bungy" but it will extend TOO far. I always have a bucket or waste basket at hand when opening black water outlet. My rig uses a common drain for 2 grey tanks plus black water and there is always at least 1 quart to 1/2 gallon that drains out unexpectedly. It is not uncommon for me to forget to close BOTH grey water valves.

Before removing the cap I always first set up my hose, secured to sewer inlet, then slowly twist the cap open while hold the end of the hose under it. Then I don't need a bucket or other method to catch what comes out. Although if anything it's just some dripping.

Great idea! Thx

Happy to be of service. :) One additional thought, I replaced my cap with one that has the garden hose connection w/cap so that when I boondock, I could pump grey water from the bath to the galley tank if needed. If you had one of those you could remove that one first to drain what's behind the cap into the hose and that might be a bit more controlled if you find you have more in the pipe than is easy drained into the hose by removing the whole cap. Valterra makes a clear version that would allow you to see how much is in there before you open it too.
