I thought I would start a thread about my experience with the initial quality of my 2024 337RLS fifth wheel. This is my 3rd trailer over 12 years. This is my second Grand Design (first was 2017 Imagine 2970RL) and this is our first Fifth Wheel.

The worst problem on the first trip was water in the underbelly. As we were hooking up to leave, I noticed water leaking from the area where the red/blue drains extend out of the undercover. I removed 3-4 screws from the undercover to let the dozens of gallons of water escape. The GD dealer who worked the warranty claim told me that the pipe between the kitchen gray tank and the evacuation/dump line was not long enough and not fully connected. He stated that the factory used plumber's putty to make up the distance. GD paid for the repair, but would not agree to replace the undercover which I felt was damaged and stretched from all the water. I did not escalate that request to GD. The other problems from the first trip were: The trailer's battery is not strong enough to run the hydraulic lifts or extend the slides. I need generator power or grid power to open/close slides and lift/lower the trailer. GD states that the dealership has responsibility for the battery. The third problem was with prongs on the plug for one of the recliners . The prongs were broken. GD sent me a replacement plug. The fourth problem was an inability to get compass connect app on my iphone to sync with the camper. In summary, the first trip was lovely and with the exception of the gray tank leaking, the other problems were fairly minor. Nonetheless, I have to say that I was very glad the water problem was a gray tank and not the black tank.

We are not on trip #2 and here is the list so far. 1. Trash can drawer came off track due to screws coming out of the drawers. I have fixed this with longer screws. 2. LED light on the awning did not stay on when one awning is closed and we were on generator power. This seems to be a sporadic problem as it has not reproduced using grid power. 3. The bath room door (pocket door) appears to be off the track for one roller as it not sitting even and is very difficult to open/close. 4. Air Conditioner condensation is running down the side of the camper instead of channeling to the gutters and drip spouts. Not a big deal but will eventually stain the side of the camper if not fixed. 5. Front door does not close easily. It scrapes on the latch plate. This causes us to either slam the door or use two hands to close the door while pulling on the handle to reduce the friction against the striker plate. 6. The kitchen sink drains VERY SLOWLY. Yes this is the same kitchen sink with the gray tank problem. I assume the fix for the tank has somehow effected the pipe coming from the sink. Plunging does not help, I am going to go get a snake and may take off the trap under the sink to check it. 7. The hot water is not consistent. My wife got scalded taking a shower as the temperature increased quickly and unexpectedly. The tankless water heater seems to not hold the water temp consistently. We are being very careful taking showers.

Let me say that I realize there is a lot of moving parts to a fifth wheel. I know that every time we pull our camper it is experiencing an earthquake of shaking and bounces. Also, we are GD fans given that this is our second GD camper. But my wife and I feel that we are experiencing more problems than we should. We hope once we get these fixed, it will be problem free camping for the next few years.

I am interested in others experience with the initial quality of 2024 GD products.

addendum to original post...the list of second trip issues continues to grow. The awning fabric on the second awning (slide awning) is detaching from the roller.

Couple of things I see wrong with your statements......there are no hydraulics on a Reflection.

The selling dealer installs the battery, not GD.

The selling dealer is required to do a PDI on the unit to administer the warranty. If your selling dealer didn't find the water issue, shame on them.

Your recliners- again, dealer should have done a pdi and found it before you took possession of it.

Compass Connect is very finicky with Iphones. Android based phones work fine. it is Lippert programming, used across many manufacturers.

I'm not going to go through each of your other issues, and yes, should everything have been perfect from the start, yes. But the first test of any unit is the delivery distance to the dealership. For us, it is almost 700 miles. Things happen, which is why it is very important to have a good selling dealer do what they are supposed to.

You will not find plumber's putty anywhere in the factory. GD uses plastic drain assembles, and if you putty them, they will break shortly after from the chemical reaction. Dealer was pulling your leg on that front. I totally can believe a pipe to short or not glued to fittings. Plenty of units out there with these misses, GD and others.

Regardless of my description of the type of installed jack, the jack will not lift the trailer on battery power alone, which is an annoyance and does not meet my expectations of a quality trailer. Yes, I will return it to the dealer which i purchased it from to address that problem. My hope with this post is to understand if the factory jacks should function (i.e. lift the trailer for the purpose of hitching) using just battery power.

Yes, the factory jacks will lift the trailer off the hitch...provided the battery has sufficient charge. Have you checked the voltage of the battery? Lithium, or lead acid?

We just took delivery of a 2025 378MBS. And oh boy! About 8 things wrong with it right out the gate. The auto leveling on the jacks are not functioning correctly. We had body damage (large scratches on the outside sidewalls that we pointed out before we drove away. Inside molding was completely detached in the bedroom. And staples were protruding from the wall near the floor in the bedroom. We are shocked! Hopefully the dealership will own to it and help us find a solution.

Are you saying you accepted the coach and took it home with none of these issued resolved while at the dealer? I hope you do have a "we owe," which is legally binding, but I personally would have refused delivery until the leveling repaired and scratches fixed to complete satisfaction, if possible. Clearly, your dealer did not do an inspection before presenting it to you that, IMO, defines how the entirety of your relationship with them will be. I do wish you good luck and hope you do get to have many happy camping adventures!

That sucks to have all those issues on a new trailer. Been there. The worst part for me is trying to tell my wife we got a good trailer and her telling me the old one never had these issues. Short memory.. had plenty of issues on that one too.

Don't have insight on all the issues, but the battery thing I've experienced on past trailers with electric leveling and lead acid batteries. All of those trailers had two 12v lead acid from the dealer vs one. I'd say one on a FW is not enough. They will drain fast with the fridge running, and if you have an inverter and that is on, even faster. I keep mine off. Also. dealers are notorious for leaving the batts on when the trailer is sitting on the lot. That will drain it and it will never charge fully after. My previous branded dealer did this. Couldn't raise the trailer with the front legs even with a fully charged(or so I thought) battery. I'd push for two new 12v batts. Also, on those trailers unless at my storage unit I never ran the schwintek slide or leveled it on batts alone. Didn't trust either system on batteries only.

The AC condensation for me through three FW's now has always mostly drained as it should. Occasionally it'll run somewhere it shouldn't. Could be as simple and some debris diverting the condensation to the wrong spot. Next time I camp it drains correctly.

The plumbing issues should be easy for the dealer to diagnose and correct.

We just purchased a new Solitude in February. I love it, and I've been happy with GD's responsiveness to issues vs my last SOB trailer. But there's no doubt been issues. 6 months later and I'm still trying to sell my wife on the trailer.

Roof replaced
Front bedroom windows out of alignment. Not just a cosmetic thing.
Bad furnace
Leak in hydro system
Black tank valve that wont close
Trim came off the interior of one slide
Shade that won't retract or extend as it should
Busted latches on propane tank straps
Missing parts on pin box
Furnace duct work restricted
Busted shelves in the fridge
Shelves in the closet a W/D would be coming down while in transit

I think there's more but GD/dealer has fixed or is currently fixing most of it minus the furnace which the dealer couldn't figure out so I paid an indy shop to fix, and the fridge which isn't really GD's fault. Mostly mine for expecting more than my fridge is apparently capable of. Didn't even bother bringing that one up with anyone. Also, i just removed the shelves in the W/D area. Don't need them. I fixed the trim and ducting myself.

Good luck. We've tried to use ours quite a bit to make sure most of the big stuff fails during the warranty period. Every trip in year one is a test flight of sorts.

Thanks. i agree that any camping in year 1 is a test run. I am just keeping a list to share when I take it in for the Fall check up.

You are right about some things not being GD's fault. We picked up a nail last week when we stopped at Buckee's for gas. Thank God for TPMS. We noticed the one tire dropping a couple of PSI every 10 minutes. Got that tire patched this week while camping. Also, appreciate AAA for coming and swapping the tire with the spare and then again replacing the spare with the original.

Here is a question that I will research on the forum...should the spare time under the FW have a secondary safety cord like my truck tire does? Also, why didn't GD build an indentation or wheel house for that spare?

It's up to you. It's easy to run a small length of chain over the frame cross member that supports the winch. There are also several threads in the past on folks modifying the winch to prevent it from loosening.

We are on our second reflections fifth wheel. The new is a 2024 290rls. The previous was a 2020 260rd. The basic workmanship in the new is noticeably lesser than the previous. Things like cabinet doors not closing without rubbing. A kitchen window that can not open all the way. Finally a shower door roller that fell off, twice now. I adjusted the cabinet doors. The others have been approved for repairs under the warranty, but still these are minor things that should have been resolved long ago. My discussions with other campers and people in the RV industry indicate that basic workmanship across the board has declined noticeably across the entire industry since COVID.
