Inverter Location

Another Inverter Location?

I was able to install an inverter and later added a DC-DC charger just behind the front cap and in front of the pass-through of our Imagin. I took down the paneling and found plenty of room for the pieces. Also, took down enough of the "framing" to install a plywood mounting board and rebuilt the wall after the install. I did bring the battery cables up through the floor into this area which allowed the cables to be kept as short as possible. Also not shown in the picture is a surface mount On-Off switch for the inverter that I located just inside the front cap LED light switch. I liked this location because I didn't have to take up any wall space in the pass through, storage is precious in a travel trailer.

I did this mod a few years ago and it has been working pretty well for us.

What is the DC-DC battery charger for?

DC-DC charger ships higher amps to charge the trailer batteries from the tow vehicles alternator. Normally the 7 way connector provides something like 5-7 amps, with this charger you can provide a much higher current.

Oh, I like this idea a lot! I will definitely check on my Imagine and see if it has the same space. My biggest worry about putting the components in the pass through is them getting pushed and bumped while loading and being towed. This may be the answer. Thank you for sharing!!
 
Any issues taking the paneling down? or any tips you can pass on?

It has been a while, but my recall was that on our trailer, the paneling was brad nailed on with a small piece of molding tacked on the bottom. I just pried of the molding, which left most of the brad in place, pulled them out and then started prying the paneling off from top and then when enough was free started going down the near edge and proceeded across the pass through. Not real difficult to remove.

The paneling is on piece and a bit awkward to deal with to get out of the pass through. I did replace the paneling with 2 pieces of 1/4" sanded ply that I attached with screws to allow access to this area. I did the same to other side of the pass through. The removed paneling matches the rest of the trailer panels and will save for other mod's inside the trailer, like a shelf in the bathroom vanity.

While I had the back passthrough paneling off I ran a 120V supply and 12V supply through the wall into the under bed storage compartment. I did add a 120V outlet in the compart, we can store our battery vacuum battery while charging all out of the way. The 12V supply will eventually run a LED strip to light this compartment with a magnetic switch on opening.
