he existing inverter prep is 10 gauge wire with 30amp breaker. To my knowledge. his configuration would allow 3600 watts.
Prior to installing an inverter the existing "Inverter Prep" allows for 30 amps, 3600 watts. Why does Grand Design specify that only 2000 watt inverter can be installed?
Once a 2000 watt inverter is installed. The system will now be limted to 16.6 amps, 2000 watts. This is because when connected to shore power. The 2000 watt inverter limits the shore power "Pass through" current at 16.6 amps.
Why does Grand Design only allow a 2000 watt inverter? This takes your pre inverter installation from 30 amps to 16.6 amps.
I would appreciate a reply.
Thank You
Tim

Your inverter should be out of the cct when shore power is connected by the MTS or ATS.
Put in whatever size inverter you like. Just ensure proper wire and fuse size and you should be good.
Thank you for the promt reply.
Electrical is is not my strong area. What is "cct"
Thanks

@Bentley Boy, we have a 3,000-watt inverter in our coach. For the ATS, you want to be sure you have enough capacity for what is going to be drawing power on the circuit. On our coach, the inverter breaker covers the interior AC outlets plus the microwave. We use a 15 Amp ATS since we won't be drawing more than that when using those circuits. You may want a bit more overhead just for safety, a 20 Amp ATS should be plenty.

Inverters have a surge rating up to twice their nominal load. The wires need to handle that load without melting their insulation.
