Hi!

I recently replaced the radio in my trailer. We went from a Furrion DV3300 to DV1230. During the update, I replaced the stock "5.25" speakers with a set of Polk 6.5 DB series for both interior and exterior. Did some AV rewiring as well. Now the radio handles the sound for the TV. However since the radio is perpendicular to the TV, you have to get up to adjust the volume a needed. The radio does have an IR extender jack in the back. However I have tried several different extenders with nothing working. I reached out to Furrion and nothing really was productive at that point. They basically said anything should work. I reiterated I have tried a few different ones and nothing seems to sync up.

With better sound and video, I am now just wanting to make the radio remote work a little easier for those who need it. However, the Polk speakers and overall sound is really nice. My wife and I never notice how poor the stock speakers really are. When I installed the new head unit, I tried CDs and DVDs as a test. DVDs actually play correctly. With our old head unit the DVDs would not play correctly. There would be a delay in the sound to the picture currently on screen. It was a weird effect. I tried a few different cables and set ups including the ARC HDMI port. We would just set up a DVD player on the counter if we wanted to watch DVDs in the trailer. Not anymore, the head unit works just fine.

If anyone has experience in doing to IR extender type stuff, let me know. I appreciate your input. Thanks!

Good choice to upgrade your speakers, I did the same and the sound is much better. Those cheap speakers that come stock never sounded good. I also added a sub-woofer for better base.

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble controlling the TV sound. We use the HDMI ARC on ours and it works well. The TV remote controls the sound for volume and muting. We don't have the same head unit as you do, on ours you can choose HDMI ARC as the sound input.

I got a little experience with IR's. We added an IR wire with plug into the back of our 3300 and it worked great. However, RV's have lots of windows and possible light leakage unless properly shaded. Also, some IR pickups can be finicky requiring fairly direct facing, and can also be interfered with by glass deflection of IR light of both the remote IR being used and any others used on other appliances at the same time.

First off, make sure you pushed the phono plug all the way into the jack on the head unit. Have seen some that werent and didnt operate correctly.

Alternatives if thats not the case:
Since you stated that your head unit (with the IR) is perpindicular to the TV you are trying to operate, you could use a standalone IR receiver with a IR emitter placed directly over the head unit IR receiver. This would allow you to place IR pickup in a location close to your TV and once triggered would directly flash the head unit IR pickup.

Another idea would be an IR blaster. Same as the standalone IR receiver, but blasts the IR signal pretty much larger area. Both of these IR devices are very popular in home stereo relocated rack system usage and typically work well.

When I am on cable for the TV, I run though the AV ports on the TV to the head unit. I never had it set up like that before with the old head unit. The old unit was run off a HDMI port which didn't seem to work as an ARC port. Yes I have the HDMI cable in the ARC port on the TV. The only other items I have connected is an Fire TV stick. I thought about a sub woofer but I thought it would be overkill for the trailer.

Interesting.... Stroking chin...I think it was a poor design choice for the trailer's entertainment when it comes to layout. The radio is closer to the door and faces away to the left of the TV.
