I finally made the decision to go with Good Sam for our renewal on our Grand Design 2600RB rather than what we had with Liberty Mutual tagged to our home and auto. The LM RV coverage was only for comprehensive and collision and ~$350/yr. After some quizzing here, it became apparent that we were under insured - no vacation liability nor roof coverage.

I did not know until just recently that GS was National General and Allstate. Interesting, as Allstate would not cover our travel trailer when I got quotes. GS does seem a bit on the high side at ~$1k/yr including $5,500 personal effects, RV Emgcy exp, $100k of Vacation Liability, $5k roof repair + pet & rodent protection.

Plus GS offers a $40/mo discount when storing the RV at home so no vacation liability needed.

Did they just recently get merged into National General/Allstate to allow the aquisition of home and car insurance?

Good Sam and Nat Gen have been doing business together for atleast the last 6+ yrs since we bought our trailer in 2018 cause we too have them. We havent had to make any claims so claim experience in unkonwn. However, like the fact that they allow for storage only ins when we have it parked at our storage facility - usually is a big cash kick back when we do.

Dont know anything about Allstate being part of the mix?

Good Sam / Nat General are the worst companies to deal with, on the dealer side.

Both have totally unrealistic ideas of what it takes to fix an RV.

They cut labor rates to nothing, and times. A job that takes 5 hours, they want to pay 2 1/2 and 2/3 hourly rate.

Our body shop won't even work on units that are insured with them anymore.

Just curious... isnt it a challenge dealing with any ins co as a maint facility?

My experience as an in "insured" needing a repair with even the larger national firms (SF, Farmers, etc) is they always try to go the remanufactured rout on some items to cut costs or even try to ignore damage by argument. Even heard stories from repair shops of eating costs due to denials as well. Do agree however... that some ins cos can be worse than others.

we have progressive. They have roof coverage and MICE coverage. I have not had a claim yet but all the reviews I have read on claims have been excellent. I store mine in our yard we put an rv port in last year. We keep it fully insured all year in order to keep replacement, roof and mice damage active has to be fully insured. not taking any chances with our investment.

No, some are actually pretty easy to get along with. Progressive being one of them....most of them have reasonable labor rates as well.

There aren't any "remanufactured" parts in the rv industry, so that's one thing they don't try to pull.

The good/bad/ugly of it is that we can just pass on doing the work and let someone else deal with it.

Other than Progressive, are there any others that particularly stand out as being reasonable to work with?

I have to say that National General stepped up to the plate big time when our 7 month old 2600 RB got totaled ( not our fault) in 2021. They negotiated with Lazy Days and got us a 2022 model year replacement. We had to put the $500 deductible down to get it on order from the factory. But we got that back 7 months later when the case cleared court.
They paid all fees, taxes, etc.
Accident was mid May, new trailer arrived in Tampa August 3rd. ( We had to wait for it to be built because we didn’t like the way the in stock ones were configured).

Nationwide and State Farm are pretty good.
Have you dealt with Hartford at all? We have them thru AARP and our rates for a $500 deductible is less than $200 a year for $52K worth of coverage.
We did have a roof claim a couple years ago to the tune of $11K and they had a check on the way within 2 works of being notified. Replaced the roof with a FlexArmor.

I had Progressive (via USAA) last year and was looking to switch because of the premium. However, a friend said he's used them for years and their response time and coverage were outstanding so I went back to them. I DID drop the roof coverage, do you think that was a mistake? Ours is a 2024 Reflection 28RL located on the Central Coast of CA

Our 5th had a disagreement with a tree last year with damage to the front cap and roof to the tune of $23k. We have no deductible. Progressive didn't blink for a new roof & the fiberglass work. I got our camper back in three weeks.
Got our renewal notice the other day, & we were hit only for a minimal increase. I was impressed, as we have been insured with them for only three years.
