I'm pretty nerdy.
I've got a 2021 17MKE that I've modded, and pull with a lifted Lexus GX 460 with tow package and custom reinforced hitch assembly. I aim to hike the AT for a month in March, and then around the country for caving expeditions and maybe a 14K or two. Visit family. Look up people I like but never talk to. Just seeking a little peace in my life.
I'm an internet tech guy, and computer game maker, with time spent in Texas and California, and a few other places. I took an early "retirement" to homeschool my challenged kid, who is now 19 and flown. Other parents with mental disability kids, IYKYK.
I feel a little strange making this all about me, but I guess that is what a new member introduction is for.
On the nerd front, I've just converted the 17MKE to use a 460Ah LFP battery, with shore charging and plans for alternator and solar charging. I was petrified when I first hooked everything up, but nothing burst into flame. I'm running my computer off DC power because I like the quiet. I'm typing on that very computer now, which brings a big geeky smile to my face.
If you can stand the nerdiness so far, I'll add that I also am developing a VR game, which I'll continue to do in the trailer. I guess I'll call my rolling home the VR RV.
RVing isn't totally new to me. Years ago I went around the Western US, with wife and dog, in a fifth wheel for 18 months. The slabs. Bryce canyon. Mt St Helens. Towards the end I was a digital nomad, and it was fun, but eventually we returned to Texas.
Despite that, I feel like I know mostly nothing about RVing. The online RV-er community has been incredible. I mean it, just amazing, and I'm grateful to have the chance to connect with other people enjoying, or enduring, the same kind of RV I've got.
So howdy.
