On the lighter side of things, some interesting news on the food scene.

Question: What brand of automobile has it's own brand of ketchup?
Answer: Volkswagen PN 00010 ZDK-259-101

And a secret currywurst (which has it's own PN) recipe on which it is used. World is full of surprises.

If tomatoes are fruit, does that make ketchup a smoothie?!

Believe it or not.... Currywurst is a popular snack sold by german street vendors throughout Germany. The snack consists of a sausage cut up into bite sized pieces and served with ketchup that has curry powder mixed in - hence the snack name - Currywurst. Brautwurst, Rotwurst, Weisswurst (personal favorite), Pretzels, Pommes Fritz (french fries), ad others are also popular street vedor foods and very tasty.

German (version) condiments such as mayo, ketchup, zenf (mustard) and onions just to name a few are good toppers for their street vendor food.

I have never seen it and grew up with ethnic German cooking and I love curry dishes but always associated them with Indian and Thai food. Leftover lamb was curried lamb stew over rice with a sprinkle of coconut on it. What I also understand is that VW makes its own wurst too.

My mom (soldiers wife) a first generation german american of her family never made it either. Some of her southern german style dishes she made was stuffed bell peppers, cabbage rolls, german potato salad (sliced potatos, onions, vinegar), Rouladen (skewered sliced thin beef stuffed with onions, pickles and mustard) in a home-made beef sauce, and brauts in kraut. Sure miss her Bayern cooking.

OK, here is a Ketchup trivia question for y'all. WITHOUT looking it up on google or ???, what town in the US has a brooks Ketchup bottle for a water tower? The entire structure is around 170' tall, counting the tower base and the Ketchup bottle/water tower bottle on top. No fair using google....Bonus points if you've ever been there....

PS....I only know this because I grew up in a town that is approx. 20 miles from the town that the water tower/Ketchup bottle is in.

I looked it up because no one answered.. but I'm not giving the answer ?

Interesting - I have never seen that brand in any of the stores in our area. Seems like it is sold in Kroger stores and there are none near us.

OK..... Will play along with ketchup trivia. Without looking it up..... where was this phrase famously coined?

"Three tomatoes are walking down the street: a poppa tomato, a momma tomato, and baby tomato. Baby tomato starts lagging behind and poppa tomato gets really angry, goes back and squishes him, and says, 'Catch up!'"

When it was built (1949 I think), it's because there was a Brooks Ketchup factory behind it and so they decided to make the water tower for the plant.....a giant Ketchup bottle. I've been past there many times, but that was before I moved to TN in 2006.

I knew the answer as I was at VW Wolfsburg back in 2019. Google AI just told me that VW stopped making the currywurst back in 2021. I also think back in 2019 my German colleague I was with told me that VW stopped making the products themselves and a third-party was making them under the VW name. I remember something like that anyway.
