My basement watchdog battery leak alarm (that I installed a few days ago) saved the day.
Watching TV and heard an alarm...which we couldn't place. Then it dawned on me, so into the basement I went. Easy to get to the back of the nautilus as I had already installed an access door on a piano hinge. I figured the leak detector had malfunctioned ...but no, there was a leak. I found about 1/2 cup of water on the floor and found that the city in cold water connection to t he heater was the culprit.
Nothing broken, and tightening stopped the leak, but this is one very flimsy looking fitting and it isn't going to last.
My question...is this the infamous check valve that always leaks? And what is the best replacement fittings to use for this connection?
I'll post pictures in the am. That might help!
In the meantime, thanks to those that recommended the access door, leak alarm etc.
Saved a big mess....Thanks!
