Lighting over sink on 2970 RL

Hi, we have a 2024 2970 RL before they switched to the Led rope lights. One of the things we are frustrated with is there isn’t any lighting over the sink island. Does anyone have suggestions of what we could add that would last during travel? We have been looking into some rechargeable or battery lights but haven’t found anything we think will stick during transport.

Same problem here. I picked up 2 12 volt double led lights at RV Store and installed them over the sink. Wired them into the puck lights. Easy fix because you can gain access to the wiring by removing the puck light. Also did the same for the bathroom vanity.

The 295RL's dont have a light (or fan) over the island either. So.... what we did was route a 12/2 wire up from the hutch mounted AC circuit nearest the front door side and place a new AC outlet above the dead wall space over the hutch.

From there, used white rectangular closed wire conduit from near the new outlet up the wall to ceiling and over to a new remote controlled 6 spd 22" fan/light combo mounted permenantly to the ceiling. Parts list follows:

12/2 w grd wire, various mounting screws, 2 black duplex outlets, 1 white duplex outlet, 3 - old work single gang outlet boxes, 2 black face plates (match hutch OEM), and 1 white face plate.

Note: The hutch crown molding hides the new above hutch wall mounted outlet from view. We also added some remote I/O color changeable above hutch accent lighting with the available power outlet.

The DW and I really like the new remote light/fan setup when cooking and/or washing dishes. The brightness and extra air movement helps when working in the kitchen. Not to mention the accent lights above the hutch which adds some indirect lighting and accent color at night. Also replaces a island surface top circulation fan for air movement within the trailer. The ceiling fan really helps with temperature control throughout the main area of the trailer too. We opted for the smaller 22" fan/light so that it would never come into contact with the retracted dining/kitchen slides during travel. Very happy with results!

Unfortunately, the nearest puck light is a ways away so I don't think this will work.

Thank you, I will look into this option.

The fan/light I listed in my original post (which you replied too) mistakenly was the first one we considered for our sloped ceiling but would have require an angled mounting block. The below fan is the actual one we got for our 5er over the island mount with sloped ceiling. It allows for placement "without" the angled block mount and does operate directly bolted to the sloped trailer ceiling and still clears the retracted slides. You may want to consider this one instead.

I guess your 2970 RL is different than mine. It really doesn't matter how far away the puck lights are, the ceiling is open so you can run the wires as far as you need. That's what they make fish tapes for.

Do ageee that battery operated lights are the way to go.... easy install, no electrical runs, and the remote in the one you listed is handy!

But..... as I get older and also stay in a small spaced trailer with the DW, dont want to bother with climbing up on something to swap out batteries, or worse yet, forget to remove them and have them ruin a device. Been there and done that.

BTW, they do make some hanging battery pendant lights that are easy to install and maintain. We considered these prior to installing a wired fan/light... but went wired after: deciding a fan was also needed; the forgeting to remove battery issues; and the possible damage from swinging pendant light (movement) during travel.

We found battery puck lights that are motion activated for inside the cabinets. My wife loves them

In a 2970???

You can reach the ceiling flat-footed!

You will want to mount it on the dinette-side edge, anyway, so no reaching over the sink.

If you put it in the middle of the island, your body will cast shadows on whatever you are doing.

Eneloop batteries.

Don’t leak, don’t lose charge in storage and, in this application, MIGHT need recharging once every year or two.

Oh, and bungee cords attached to the sink faucet for pendants for travel….;)

We got (2) of THESE fixtures and found a close match to countertop coloring HERE. I put a piece of 1/2 plywood in the ceiling above each lamp to spread the "load" and hold them in place. For dimmable 12v bulbs, I used THESE. Then I took 12v power from the nearby ceiling fan and wired in a wireless remote HERE. We ended up with (2) of these remotes. One for that fan and another for the island lights. Dimming them really looks great. Kosmic5

We feel so fortunate to upgrade our trailer to the 2970RL and have no issues with lighting around the island. We have a 2023 prototype 2024 model and with the rope lights in the living area we feel the lighting is great. What are we missing?
