Loud a/c

Is anyone elses bedroom AC extremely loud??? It feels like the bed is laying on top of a cranked jet engine. Why so loud?? Anyone else's loud or is something going on with ours?

Yes. It resonates through the slide out. Not just yours. Our service guys loosened and re-tightened, but no change.
Ct..

Have you checked to see if it was set to "dump"? This dumps the cooled air, out a set of louvers (on the bottom of the unit) into the room. This aids in faster cooling. You can shut the louvers and it quiets the AC some.

There is an easy way to have quiet bedroom A/C......don't use it.

You are within inches of the ceiling in the bedroom, and yes, they do still have a compressor that vibrates when it is running.

I have the exact same thing in my Columbus, and all other 5th wheels as well.

I have the louvers open in our bedroom air conditioner. What I did to help is that I have a two zone thermostat and I set the living room at 70 degrees and the bedroom at 72 degrees. The only time the air in the bedroom comes on is during the hotest part of the day and it never comes on at night. The living room air blows through the vents in the bedroom and keeps it cool enough at night that the unit in the bedroom does not have to come on. We still have to sleep under the covers, so it is plenty cool enough for us. Hope this helps someone relieve some of the noise issues you are experiencing.

Oh that's interesting. So it looks like the ducts are continuous and both A/Cs feed into them.

My bedroom units was short cycling and when I opened the louvers it stopped and is working great. We are very happy with our current settings. I am sure the vents are being fed by the living room unit but I don't feel a difference when the bedroom unit is on. I really don't know if the bedroom unit is even hooked into the vent system but the way it acts seems it's not connected as when I close the louvers the unit sounds like it is struggling to blow air. Like putting your hand over an air vent.

Its a little loud but nothing I cant sleep through. It will wake me up in the morning but its time to get up anyway. I am just running the back one at night. I sleep through storms, trains and highway traffic so I am a bad judge of noise when asleep. We always run the fan on low. Seems to reduce the drastic temp changes and cycling of the AC. Both AC's blow through all vents.

Johnny, our bedroom A/C in our 369 is not connected to the vents.

Steve,

Are you saying the bedroom A/C does not blow thru ANY of the ceiling vents or just not thru the vents aft of the bathroom? Both front and rear A/C's in ours blow thru all of the ceiling vents. If BOTH A/C's are running on high, I can feel ALOT of air movement throughout the whole rig.

I am so sorry, I just closed the vent on the bedroom A/C and air is coming out the vents throughout the camper. I should have closed that vent a year ago. Thanks Andy!

No worries. I bet it makes things alot quieter with the vent closed too. Now that air is blowing through the celing vents, watch out for little pieces of that aluminum vent tape coming out of the vents. I'll still get a piece that will come flying out of a vent now and then. As long as I get to it before one of the dogs starts munching on it;)

Andy & Julie,

I have a 2105 379FL. With the a/c on in both the bedroom and living room, there is little or no air coming out the kitchen ceiling vents. If I close the main bedroom and living room a/c vents, then a little air comes out the kitchen vents. Do you think this is the way it is supposed to work?

We just checked the 3 ACs in our350 The only vented air is zone 2- main living area. The AC in the garage and the AC in the bedroom are not vented to any other room. We used a ladder to get up high and check, even shutting the drop to see if it forced air into the venting and it did not. Yes, the AC in the bedroom is loud and the main living area is a little loud even with the fan on low. We do not like the on and off cycles, so we leave the fan on and the compressor cycles on and off, less differences in noise levels. When we are predominately in one room and want it quieter- we run the other rooms ac- when the extreme heats get here (probably soon) we will have no choice and will just live with the noise. Of course our preferred and probably most everyones choice would be perfect outside air temps in 60's and 70's, but those are precious few times of the year in Texas.
