Lug Nut socket size

Hello All. I'm not sure what size socket to use on my 2021 260RD lug nuts. I've tried a number of different sizes ( 13/16, 3/4, 17mm, 19mm) and none seem to fit correctly. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

hmmmm. I would think those should you covered. Put a caliper on them.

The bolt size on our trailer (transcend 26rls) tires is 3/4" and the bolts holding the spare tire on were 13/16". Seems rather stupid to use two different bolt sizes, but they are different. A standard automotive star wrench works on ours. Having said that I use a torque wrench to put them on, but I carry the star wrench with us.

My Momentum triple axle (7K Dexter axles) take a 3/4" socket for the lug nuts and my Dually takes a 13/16" socket for those lug nuts. I carry a Milwaukee 3/8" 400 ft lb electric impact and carry it and the appropriate size Impact sockets as well as two torque sticks for it....one that is 160 ft lbs for the truck and one that is 120 ft. lbs. for the trailer. All the bases are covered with that setup.

I use the impact to break free nuts if I can’t get them loose with the breaker bar

When mounting tires I thread nuts on by hand then I use the impact with the torque stick to initially set them to qo lbs
Then I use the torque wrench to set final torque.

A lesson I have learned twice is that just because your lug nuts are 3/4” or 13/16” doesn’t mean any socket or lug wrench of those sizes will work. The recess in the aluminum wheel can restrict what sockets will work. On the road is not when you want to find out the wrench won’t work!

Since they use nuts with an outer case, they can vary and change with use. Do not use a 12 point socket as it will round them out. I now have one nut very different from the rest, and a few spares...and need 2 sizes of socket should I need to remove that wheel.

And I guess it goes without saying....but I'll say it anyway.....6 point socket vs. 12 point when you are working on the lug nuts

Thanks for the information. Turns our it is 3/4" When I measured the first time my socket was too short and didn't sit correctly on the lug nut. Thanks again.

A 12pt socket on an impact wrench will round off a lug nut. Don't ask me how I know.
I lucked out. There was enough of the 6pt lug left to tap the correct socket on and remove the nut.

My 311BHS has 3/4" lug nuts. I bought a deep well thin wall socket designed for lug nuts and use my Dewalt cordless impact wrench to take them off/put them on followed by a torque wrench to 110 ft. pounds.
