Lug Nut That Doesn't Fit Any Sockets / Universal Wrench?

Hi Folks. I could use some community advice as this is not my area of expertise.

I bought a new set of Goodyear Endurance tires and the local tire shop installed them on a 2022 Grand Design 23BHE. I drove 50 miles to a campsite and went to torque the lug nuts as recommended. 19 out of 20 of them, no problem. Then I get to one lug nut (pictured on right) and it doesn't fit any of my sockets nor any of the four sizes on my universal 4 way tire iron wrench. Is this some kind of special lug nut that requires a key? I'm at a total loss as to what is going on.

They don’t appear to be of the locking variety, if they were they’d look something like these: General PDP Template

My guess is that the outer covering, a pox on the engineer behind those things, has shifted and no longer is on size. Personally I would not mess with it until you're ready to replace them all with one piece lug nuts. At that time you can just find the size socket that is close and hammer it on.

Those appear to be lug nuts with a thin metal cover. You can buy sockets that are a half millimeter oversize to fit them. Perhaps Amazon? A one millimeter larger six sided impact socket might work. Use an impact wrench. Once you get them off throw them away and replace with conventional lug nuts.

Find out the size from what you used on all the others. Buy a deep well socket in the size. Line it up with the flats on the nut and drive it home with a big hammer. Torque to spec and beet on socket to get it off. Or once socket is on, remove lug nut, get it out of the socket [that's the fun part] set the lug nut with the flat on on anvil of vise, pound on top with ball peen hammer to "true" up the surface. Repeat on all sides.
Hope this all makes sense, it really is a common problem. Almost always happens when an impact gun has been used and the socket is not all the way on the nut. When someone rattles it home that way, it leaves a step on the lug nut flats that now will not allow the proper size socket to go on.

The outer covering has swelled so nothing fits it. If you can't find a socket you can hammer or that may just start spinning. You can always take a hammer and chisel to get the covering off then a 18mm will fit.

Another thought. Buy an inexpensive socket, hammer it onto the nut, remove the nut, and through socket and nut away. Replace the nut with the proper one and install it properly with the good socket that works on the rest of the nuts.

Probably easier than finding the nut that put it on that way, although maybe not as satisfying. <grin>

Thank you all so much for the advice and guidance, I really appreciate it! Will replace the lug nuts when I get access to an impact wrench / shop equipment to do the above mentioned steps. Thanks again.

Impact guns destroy that kind of lug nut. Your local tire shop likely used an impact and distorted the metal cover, and/or, if they are more than a couple years old, corrosion under the cover has caused swelling. As previously mentioned, buy a sacrificial socket and hammer it on.
