Metal Valve Stem

The last Discount Tire location in my area that did lug centric tossed their lug centric balance equipment out. Because 2019 Ford F-350 tires were purchased at DT and now have no lug centric option, I allowed them to hub centric balance the truck and it feels fine. At the same time valve stems were replaced on TT so they also were not lug centric balanced again. I have no idea how well TT aluminum wheels are balanced now, and I do not know if I want to go to the trouble to determine this through measurements of some sort.

I looked at Centramatic balancers a few years ago but it appeared that it may be better if wheels are prebalanced to ensure that Centramatic can adjust under some more significant off-balance conditions.

If tire wear is OK on TT I am not going to complicate things, at least yet.
I've never been able to tell if the wheels being balanced make the trailer ride better or not. But I balance all the wheels on my vehicles, so the trailer wheels get balanced too. What the heck.

I've used these on our last 2 trailers. They work well and are easily installed without dismounting tire. This shortie size is perfect once installed.

Update... I took the tire to a local shop and told him what I wanted. According to the shop after several tries, they used an Autel universal metal valve without the sensor. He said the regular metal valve stems were too big for the hole.

My last trailer, I had the same problem, no metal valves would work. Problem solved by using metal sleeves that go over the stem. Most auto parts store, and some tire stores will have them, and of course Amazon.

Ditto on the Colby Ultimate valve stems. Can be changed out in the backroads. We had two OEM stems on on our GY Endurance fail on the same trip. Thankfully close to home on #2 as we had no spare spare.

Greetings,
I am looking into replacing the rubber valve stem with a metal one since I have external TPMS. I had a metal one installed on the tire years ago, but when I replaced the tire at a Walmart store, they also replaced the valve stem too, I didn't notice it until it was too late to go back and recover it. Apparently the stem comes in different sizes. How would I know what size I need for my rim?
Tire size is 235/80R16
I got mine at Grainger (N-1600). Discount tire installed them for free.

I highly recommend replacing the valve stems with Colby Valve Stems. Available on Amazon. Search the forum for Colby Valve Stems.

I had these installed and had the tires balanced with the TPMS sensors in place. They have both size rubber inserts for the difference diameter holes in rims. So far they are doing great an no decrease in PSI after sitting. I did torque them down to 30 inch pounds once I got home.

Those are ones I just had installed with my new GY endurance tires.
I won’t talk about performance until after my summer travels. ( estimating 5 k miles towing)
PS my oem rubber stems were fine for the 3 1/2 years I ran them with tpms caps on the end.
