Would any Michigan owners be interested in getting together this summer for a weekend of camping? Kind of a meet and greet, and from there who knows!

We'd love to. We're booked up until the middle of Aug, then the GD rally late aug. After that we are open until late Sept.

What about gathering a wagon train of folks heading to the August Grand Design Rally ? For (eastern) Canadians heading to the Rally, a prior few days in Michigan would be perfect.

Wagontrain idea sounds fun! Hopefully we can get a few more that would like to join! Then it's a matter of deciding when and where to meet!

Wagons HO! Long as it works. Last year wee took 696 to 96 to 127 to 94 to 131 and it was a pretty easy ride to the rally.

we're interested, we missed last year's rally but it's on our calendar for this year. We would probably join the caravan on I-94 though for the last leg. We live in Monroe Co., it would be too far out of the way to start up in the thumb or east side.

There is a nice campground at Big Portage Lake. Part of Waterloo State Park. Located just north of I94 east of Jackson. Might be a good meeting point with a nice drive the next day to the rally! We've stayed there often. Just throwing an idea out there!

Not sure where Newport is! Would that be out of your way?

Jackson, MI is an easy first day drive for us . . . and an even shorter run to the Rally.
We are both retired, so every day is Saturday for us :)
We can adapt to whatever dates/timing works for those with other constraints.

Will everyone be planning on getting to Elkhart on wed or thurs? The rally starts on thurs, so we're not sure if we arrive that day or the day before.

Newport is in northern Monroe Co, exit 21 from I-75. But, we may be coming from Mears, MI if our family vacation is the prior weekend as tentatively planned. The rally is on our calendar, with plans to get there on the Wed, 26th. We may get to Big Portage Lake on Tues. if travel permits it.

We'll probably head to Big Portage tues after work, and meet up with anyone else who can make it there to wagon train the rest of the way wed!!

Anyone who wants to join up, let me know!!

Will be watching the details on this. Might be interested in joining if we have that time free:D

So where will all be camping in MI this season ? We will likely open the season local at Holly Recreation area soon as we can tolerate the weather or for Mothers Day for a weeks break in.
Then we'll be a week of dry camping at Fishermans Island State park at the end of May. A beautiful Lk Michigan frontage site..crossing fingers for a few good sunsets. This will be a good test for the new solar panel before we head west.
Also will be camping about 5 nights at Little Girls Point county park just out side of Bessemer, right on Lk Superior shoreline in Late July (more beautiful sunsets)

Probably going to start in Standish or Davison - Outdoor Adventures - hopefully the week of 4/24 - we have a family vacation booked at Lake Muskallonge State Park at the end of June - probably at least a week at Evergreen County park near Cass City - numerous weekdays in Wilderness park in Omer (I'll be retired then) - hopefully a few week days or weekends at the new Outdoor Adventure in Grand Haven - went there last fall and it was a nice time - a week in Petoskey State park probably mid September - then where ever the wind blows us. Really want to hit Porcupine State Park about the start of the fall color and work our way back down.

We're planning on camping in the Yoop after the rally...Fort Wilkins and Tahquamenon Falls State Parks mid Sept through mid Oct. We'll be camping in the northwoods on MN at Bear Head Lake SP directly after the rally.

We're coming to the rally from visiting with Deb's family in Springfield, IL but after the rally we will be exploring Michigan and Wisconsin before we move on to the North East. So looking forward to seeing places we've never been. We will be leaving our home in Southern California in early August and not returning until, well, whenever. Maybe not until November / December.

We've changed our plans and will be going to the Rally via Chicago and Wisconsin Dells. Anyone know of a decent campground around the Dells?
