1.9 cu. ft. Insignia microwave died a few weeks back. Ordered a shorter 1.1 cu. ft. Whirlpool from Best Buy and had it delivered to the local store on the road. The shorter one increases headspace above the cook top by 7". New one used the same vent location as the old. The 1.1 cu. ft. has pretty much the same footprint inside as the larger one; it just isn't as tall. Nice that the turntable can be turned off so you could put a 9x12 dish inside if you wanted to. Need to figure out what to do above the tile splash guard. Maybe a utensil rack or spice rack, or redo the splash guard so it fills the space.

Our back splash is peel and stick type fake tile from Home Depot. I would remove the existing tile and replace it with the peel and stick stuff. It comes in all types of colors and patterns. I attached a picture of my wife installing ours in 2019. She used her sissors to cut it to size. Clean the wall well before installation--we used rubbing alcohol. So far NO ISSUES with it peeling off or staying in place. Wipes clean with soapy water. Real tile adds more weight and this has held up well for us.

Grand design will have tiles or another backsplash if you want to keep the same tiles. Check their website in the parts section. Changing them wouldn't match other areas of tiles so this may be the best way to go.

Found a cubby to use as a spice rack.

Nice idea - the shorter size. Something to consider if I have to replace mine. For sure vent location would be critical in the decision. Thanks for the post.

Added a cubby from Hobby Lobby to serve as a spice rack.
