Looking at purchasing a Momentum 351M. The one I looked at on the dealer lot had the tire and loading sticker on the driver side near the front. The sticker GVWR of 16500 LBS and the weight of the cargo should not exceed 1864 lbs. With side by side weighing 1350#, 30 gallons of fuel in the tank 378#, propane at 60#, 25 gallon minimal water 200#. That totals 1988 LBS and I don't have any food, clothing, dishes, tools etc. Can I legally take this on the highway when I an overweight? My wife really likes this trailer and would like to get it but need to know if it is okay to tow this. Thank you for any ideas or suggestions.

Unless Grand Design has changed practices the weight of the propane has already been added. Whoopee, 60 pounds.

I will not say yes or no to whether being overweight is appropriate, but my belief is few toy haulers with motorized toys are underweight.

With no motorized toys we are consistently a few hundred pounds underweight.

Well 60# will help. Tow vehicle has 17200 gvw so may be a little over with all of our gear. Can I get a ticket for being overweight?

There are three numbers to worry about:

GVWR of the tow vehicle - this needs to be greater than the loaded weight of the TV plus the pin weight of the trailer.

GCWR - gross combined weight rating of the tow vehicle. TV plus trailer should be less

GVWR of the trailer. Weight on axles plus pin weight should be less than this number.

You didn’t say what you would be towing with, a dually shouldn’t be an issue with tow vehicle GVWR or GCWR.

Having had a 350M I wouldn’t consider a SRW to be adequate.

Just purchased a 350m with higher cargo capacity so by paying attention to loading i should be good to go. Looking forward to getting it home.

I have a 350M. With my RZR, 30 gallons of fuel and 30 gallons of water I'm 500# over the trailers GVWR.

I wonder what is causing the weight gain on the new models. My 17 350M has a cargo capacity of 2400 and change with the same GVW of 16.5K. You are sure going to struggle to keep that underweight, I do with my cargo capacity. Any double axle toy hauler is going to be pushing the weight issue, but getting under 2K capacity is unrealistic for it's intended use. As far as pulling it overweight, that is a decision you have to make. No, you wont get a ticket. But if you have an accident it could come into play. I have done some upgrades (tires, hubs, brakes, helper springs) to mine to make me feel better about running at or a little over the max.

You upgraded tires, brakes, hubs and springs. Disc brakes? Can you enlighten me on the brands, difficulty and approx cost of doing these upgrades? Thx

Yes, disc brakes. I used stopyourtrailer.com. He will set you up with a complete system for your trailer. It is the BEST money I have spent, difference in stopping power is remarkable. If I remember correctly cost is about $400.00 per wheel, so $1,600 for the dual axle. Hubs were part of the deal. I installed myself, I would call it moderate difficulty, but I consider myself mechanically inclined. Just haven't ever done it before.

The springs are very easy. I used Sumo Trailer Springs which are just helper coils that sit between the axle plate and frame. I think they were $500 in total.

I went with the Goodyear G614 tires, the Sailuns seem to be a very good and less expensive option, but they weren't really talked about when I bought the Goodyear. We have several equipment trailers at work and we were constantly blowing tires, went through many different ST tire manufacturers. We ponied up for the G614's about 5 years ago and the original G614's are still on all those trailers. They are a bit over $300.00 each if you shop around, have even seen folks get them for slightly under $300. I think the Sailun's are about half that cost, and reviews seem very good so far, I would consider them also.

I just picked up a 351m last week. The unloaded weight is 13830 and the GVWR is 16500, that means you can have about 2600 lbs of cargo, that 1864 is too low.

So, we bought aGD 351ms several months ago and were told gvwr of 19000. And the gd site specs also say 19000. Just caught a glance off the sticker on the side which says 16800. From the uvw of 14984 also on that sticker, that's like only 1800lbs we can put in it. We'll always be overweight. Like everyone has stated the water and fuel along with our 600lbs of motorcycles is to much, where do we load our personal stuff? UGH!!

What year? Some years had an option for 8,000 lb. axles and a GVWR of, I believe 18,000 lb. Our 2019 has a GVWR of 16,800 lb. We never haul water, and last time I scaled, we were at 17,440 lb.

You know what they say about salesmen: The only time they're lying is when their lips are moving". :)

It's a 2024
