Momentum G 21G Travel Trailer to haul three motorcycles behind F150?

I do a lot of motorcycle track days and currently tow my F150 behind our DP motorhome with one bike strapped to the back of the truck. Works great, but it’s a lot of gas to hit the track and if anyone comes with me we can’t take all our bikes with us. I also now have two track bikes as I build my new bike for next year and would like to be able to take both to the track so I have a backup next season.

So I have been looking at what I can tow behind my F150 Hybrid with max tow package. It looks like the 21G fits the bill, and all the units that are out there all come with the generator installed these days from the factory. Which is what I want as some tracks don’t have shore power so I would be boon docking for the weekend. So I have quite a few questions I can’t seem to find the answers to yet.

Since there is not a specific forum for the Momentum G class Travel Trailers, I figured this is probably the right spot to post this?

My truck being a hybrid has less cargo capacity than I would like (stupidly didn’t think about that when I got it, but I also wasn’t planning to haul much with it). The yellow sticker says 1304lb max cargo capacity, yet the truck the max haul package for 14,000lb towing and max torque weight of 1400lb (which is more than its official CCC!). But the truck has a 7350lb GVWR and given the highest curb weight I can find for the truck it should be around 1800lb CCC. I need to get it onto a cat scale to see what it actually weighs.

Anyway, into my questions:

1. The dry weight of all the units I have seen with the generator and included options is about 7500lb. So over 1000lb higher than the 6400lb listed on the product page on the GD web site. Likewise the listed dry hitch weight of 920lb is also going to be low.

So the question I have is, does anyone know what the dry hitch weight would be with the generator installed? I expect with fuel in the back fuel cell and bikes in the back it will take quite a bit away, but where is the fresh water located? When I fill that will it increase the hitch weight or take it away? Clearly I need to be careful not to have too much weight on the hitch.

Fully loaded up I expect it will be getting close to 10,000lb which is probably more than I would normally want to tow with my F150. So that’s a consideration also.

2. Has anyone else who has one of these ever gotten three bikes into the back? I figured two side by side at the rear closest to the door, and the third between them in the middle? They would need to overlap somewhat to properly fit, but I think it would work. Most of the time it would be just one or two bikes.

3. How is the construction of these units? It would get quite a lot of use during the year and I don’t want it to rattle itself to bits on the road. I have a DP right now and it’s had its share of stuff to fix, and I have had fifth wheels and travel trailers before so stuff generally goes wrong, but since COVID some of the quality has gone down hill. So would like to hear from folks to have any of the momentum travel trailers how they stand up to the rolling earthquake as we roll down the road?

4. The mattress is hard as a rock, so I would need to replace it with a softer flip up one I think. I found the custom mattress factory can make any size to order and can do the split flip up like the factory mattress. Has anyone ever gotten one of those to get a better mattress into the RV?

5. If my truck just can’t cut it, then I might consider getting another 2500HD or 3500HD truck (either GMC or Ford as I have good experience with those). So then I might consider a larger trailer such as the 29G or 31G. Then it’s all starting to get kinda long and heavy. But an F250 or 2500HD would have no issues with that.

Had anyone with either the 29G or 31G gotten three sport bikes into the back of those? Not sure how well that would work with an 11’ garage but if it would that would at least make it shorter and lighter.

6. With a bigger truck another option would be the 28G as it has a long garage so I think three bikes would go in there easy. But if I get something bigger it would be nice to close off the toys from the main area to keep fumes etc out. But a big plus of the 28G is it looks like the mattress does not need to slip up when the slide is closed? Has anyone put a standard queen into that unit successfully? Oddly the stock mattress is still the flip up style but it sure looks like that should not be needed?

7. Not interested in another fifth wheel hauler. I am 6’7” tall so while the GD has a sunken shower which is nice, none of them have enough headroom in the bedroom. My head is literally grazing the roof constantly. Did that in the past, so would much prefer the headroom in the TT units :)

Forget about the Max capcities. Your truck is not configured to that. As it was built is what the yellow sticker states. Your proposed TT will also have a yellow sticker. The specs on it is what is important.
From my arms length view, it doesn't look like a good match. 10,000# gross means 1200-1500 on the hitch. You will be over payload before anything else including passengers is added to the truck.IMO doing tricks such as adding FW for weight distribution to make up for a less than capable TV is a poor fix. What happens when you use it? That weight will move or disapear.

You can stop looking up curb weights. Your truck was weighed when it left the factory and it came out to 6,046lbs give or take a slight allowance (140lbs) they supposedly leave for the driver. Considering my 5.0 goes over the cat scale at about 5,500lbs, I can also say that a tick over 6k sounds right for a hybrid. Your use case sounds perfect for a truck upgrade tbh. Too many sacrifices and not enough weight capacity.

The build quality is industry standard to slightly above industry standard. My opinion, worth what you paid, is that they are definitely better than some, and I can’t pick out anyone specific I can definitely say is better. GD built their rep on support and I’ve been happy with that aspect. Most of us on this forum own grand design, many of us sticking with grand design as we have changed/upgraded trailers. Take from that what you will.

Whelp, anyone want an F150 Hybrid? Lol. I just bought a GMC 2500HD truck today and put a deposit on a 31G travel trailer. Truck should tow that thing nicely and it will have the space I need.
