They have special crossmembers designed to clear such obstructions.
Take measurements, the lower bracket they have is not low enough to clear my black pipe. I would have to extend the bracket another inch. No way to relocate the pipe unfortunately. They have special crossmembers designed to clear such obstructions.
As happyfrood said, those brackets are not long enough to clear the rear black pipe. Ill look again and just make a plate & weld a sq tube across if I don't think it will be too low. They have special crossmembers designed to clear such obstructions.
I too have a broken right rear shackle. After reading all these posts it appears the problem is systemic. Obviously, i need to upgrade my axles etc. which really pisses me off. I have seen various parts named such as V brackets, X braces etc. Can anyone provide a list of recommended upgrade parts/kits that I can research and price out?Although I am sure there has been, I have not heard or read about the center hangar or the shackle bolt in it breaking. All most all are the rear.
"Systemic"? That might be going overboard a bit.I too have a broken right rear shackle. After reading all these posts it appears the problem is systemic. I would start by adding the " V " braces inside the hanger brackets then the cross braceing. Just my thought. I don't know what the V's would cost as our 397 had them when I bought it.just meaning these kind of failure should be rare. Apparently not so much... Hopefully someone can steer me to suggested repair/upgrades. I really do not want to replace my entire trailer suspension.
You might just look for a local welder. We found a great one 15 miles away that does trailer repair. They were fast, cheap, and great. Just work out of a big shed on their farm; sometimes those can be a great find. Thanks, that is the conclusion from several other threads I read. I just need to get the trailer back in roadworthy condition. Next off season I may consider full scale suspension upgrades. Now I just have to find a shop that will do the work in a reasonable amount of time. I'm thinking our local GD service center is not the place. could be wrong, they have been OK on simple warranty work and maintenance. This however, might be over their heads.
Look at the local commercial trailer repair places. They are the ones that are working on suspensions all the time. When one of my shackle tabs bent, went to the commercial place, trust them more than a dealer. If just welding the "v" bracket, like mentioned above, a good welder will work. Thanks, that is the conclusion from several other threads I read. My answer to clearing the gray water pipe...As happyfrood said, those brackets are not long enough to clear the rear black pipe. Ill look again and just make a plate & weld a sq tube across if I don't think it will be too low.
