I'm thinking about adding the cross braces to the spring hangers on our 397TH. Our other 5er had braces welded on from the factory & we never had any suspension problems but it was only a 14500 GVWR my question is on how many do I really need. The disc brake company I've been talking to & another GD forum are in the only one needed group but etrailer says all four hangers. Also it has the v-braces in the hangers from factory'
To me all hangers with a cross brace makes sense but I'm thrifty if I can be. I've even thought about just welding angle between the hangers as our Jayco had. What have y'all done on your heavy triple axle trailers ?

As I said installing 4 made more sense to me. There is a belief out there that only one set of hangers gets the side to side and the back hanger gets the fromt to back movement . I think depending on the type pavement or ground your are on puts more or less strain on hangers.

While I only installed one this is what MoRyde told me when I asked in what order should they be installed.
If only adding one it needs to be at the equalizer (tandem is one X-factor, Triple would be two of them, one at each equalizer). The next one would be at the rear spring hanger. Last would be the front hanger.

My multi-certified RV tech says that the rear axle on three axle units is the one he sees frequently ripped out during tight turns.

Since you mentioned being thrifty, I would recommend at the very least install cross braces to the equalizer spring hangers. Those tri-axel configurations take a tremendous amount of lateral pressure especially while turning.

For those that have installed “X Factor” on their tri-axles, did they notice any perceptible changes in ride and would you recommend adding them knowing what you know now? I have a 397TH also, and am considering adding them to all 4 points on my tri-axle since I need to do new suspension bushings after my next pull home (tomorrow). So while I have the suspension down/apart, makes the most sense to add X-factor if I was gonna do it. I certainly don’t want to pull this apart more than necessary.

Thanks in advance.

I just added 3, so I can't comment on the ride. My decision point was the roads we plan on traversing. We've done many forest roads and are heading to Alaska! It the future was all pavement I would have done 1 or less.

Take look at your plumbing. It may be in the way. Mine is.

On our 397,The rear drivers side requires the drop down bracket but that may put the brace too low. I'm going to start just by doing the 2 equalizer hanger positions. then figure out whether to use the drop bracket or lower sewer by useing (2) 22Deg ells .

I installed the X cross braces on our dual axle Solitude at same time with new spring bushings, HD shackle kit and Dexter EZ-Flex to replace the CRE 3000 equalizers. No drop down brackets needed on the X cross braces

The RV had the HD shackles... Couple bolts were worn and wear on the shackles from the spring eyes. So I replaced it all. Now I have a few extra shackle parts to carry and never use?

No road trips yet.. That happens in May 2024. ALtho I may run the RV down to a CAT scale to check weights.. Its been near 2 yrs

They have drop-down hangers to help with obstacles.

The rear waste pipe on mine is in the way of putting the X-Factor on the rear shackle. Measuring it, I would need a 4" drop, and they only make the 3" drop. I would need to have one fabricated, as there is no way to reroute the pipe.

We have a 2022 397THS we picked up in 12/31/21. I had the Road Master Slipper Spring suspension installed with hydraulic disc breaks. Also includes 6 shock absorbers. It is a very robust system. Night and day difference from stock suspension. We boon dock 90% of the time and have had no issues. You might want to give it a look.
