Hi y'all, We have a 2016 303RLS Reflection 5th wheel. I want to purchase an inverter generator to carry & run off the rear of the camper. Can I plug directly in a generator with factory electric cord or any modifications needed? Any suggestions on a good generator for a 50 amp unit?

1. Yes, but most portable inverter generators are in the 3500 watt or less which means utilizing the trailer like you would at a 30 amp hook up.

2. If you use the search function for "generator" you can read for weeks.

3. We have a Champion 3500w inverter generator which we have been pleased with with the exception that it weighs 98 pounds. If I had it to do over again I would buy two smaller units and run them in parallel when needed.

We have a Westinghouse / Cummins dual fuel 3500 . Gas/ propane, pull/ electric and remote start. Can run 18 hours .
Well made and very quiet at 52-55 decibels. 100 lbs. Has wheels and a leverage handle. Lots of good information on its display panel. Made by a company which makes generators.

I prefer this generator as it has a larger tank so less refills than the smaller 2000. Remote start is a plus.

I have a champion 3100W. I ditched my 50 amp cord (way heavy) for a 30 amp cord and use a dog bone to reduce the 50 amp plug to 30 amp. I REALLY REALLY REALLY love the remote start, also available on some Westinghouse models.

Thanks y'all for the info. The Champion 3500 is the inverter I thought would be most suited for our camper. Your replies have helped.

My Champion 3400-Watt dual fuel powered electric start port inverter generator arrives in a week and I got the all weather tent also. I was going to buy the Westinghouse iGen4500DF but they are not for sale anywhere. I read that there was some sort of fire risk with them so they are not selling them. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2020/mwe-investments-recalls-westinghouse-portable-generators-due-to-fire-hazard
