We have an GD Imagine 23LDE 2024
Our problem is that the awning does not close all the way. The back one needs a gentle pull and it will close. The front one has about a 2 inch gap at the top and tapers down about 3/4th of the way down.
We don't know what to do. Have tried doing same with the back, but does not work. Have never left it out if there was more than a light breeze.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you

Pictures would better help explain your concern with the awnings for our understanding.

Have your awnings ever fully retracted without help?

Being that its a new RV I would recommend taking it back to your dealer and have them warranty it. Maybe an install issue.

I'm sure this isn't you problem but we once had a problem getting our awning to close all the way. Turned out a squirrel had put a walnut in the track keeping it from closing.

My awning doesn't close all the way. It's a 21' awning and it appears it's not closing because it doesn't roll up straight. Like trying to roll up a rug and it doesn't roll evenly. Turns out the awning has slid in the track where it attaches to the camper. Does it appear to be rolling up evenly?

I thought they use a set screw to keep the material aligned in the roller? I guess the fabric could eventually stretch some which could cause it to roll unevenly even if it was secured by a screw.

It rolls up just fine. The arm doesn't close up all the way to the side of the trailer. Have checked everything, and can't see why this is happening, unless, because it didn't close all the way in the first place, it is just getting worse with towing it.
Thanks

I'm having the same issue with a 19' awning. I'm curious if loosening the set screws and rolling in and out the awning several times would allow it to straighten itself out. I've seen this is how you align a slide topper. Not sure if it would work but may be worth a shot.

I'll have to take a closer look and see what plan of action I take. It's also noticeable that the led awning light strip isn't straight either. It's bunched up and twisted. The track the awning and the light is in, appears to be loose from the wall at the rear. More investigation is needed for me I think.

You probably already know this but at least one of the braces are usually adjustable to allow you to slope it for rain runoff. When one of braces is longer than the other the awning will not roll up straight. The dealer should have shown you this.

The manual says this is normal. If will roll up backwards if you hold the switch. Mine is now wrinkled very bad and the dealer told me it was due to rolling it with the fabric under the tube instead of on top. I'm not sure if that's the problem but it will happen if it extends all the way while holding the extend button and not stopping it. I am going to try another dealer to see if this is true.

One more note. The arms will not fully engage but stay out about 2" from the side if rolled backwards. I did find this to be true. Had to roll up with the fabric always on top of the tube to correct it.

I posted this in the wrong chat so moved it here.

With the awning material being vinyl, would fully extend it on a hot sunny day for several (or more) hours and then retract it a little at a time while the fabric is still hot to the touch. Chances are it may stretch out those wrinkles a little while sitting in the sun and remove some of them when finally rolled up.

This has worked for us in the past.

The awnings are not meant to be rolled up backwards... they should always be rolled over top of the tube. Grand Design Tech at one of the rallies said completely rolling it up backwards will damage the springs and void your warranty. If you accidentally run it out too far and start to roll it up backwards STOP and go back the opposite way.
