I've been towing my travel without a pin to to keep the coupler latch from lifting away from the ball. I'm not sure of the law in California but someone suggested to me that it might be unlawful in some states to not have a pin to secure the coupler latch. I have purchased two locking coupler pins but neither of of them fit. The bottom of the hole in the latch is even with the top of the tongue so the locking type of coupler latch pin can't be inserted into the hole. The tongue at that point is so wide that I haven't been able to find anything that will work.

I was wondering what others with similar coupler latches are using to secure the latch when traveling.

I use one like these: https://www.amazon.ca/INCREWAY-Lock...ocphy=9001353&hvtargid=pla-604450022325&psc=1 on all my bumper pulls.

I looked at those and that was going to be my next purchase. Not lockable but I'm really just looking for something to keep the latch from moving when traveling.
Search: "Reese coupler lock" on Amazon. There is a bunch of options for locks made for couplers similar to the one I use to keep anyone from lifting my coupler latch without my knowledge.

Gary,

Just a suggestion. I think you may be over thinking this a little. You don"t need a specific device for this. Just a retainer clip as suggested, or nut and bolt, or anything that will secure the handle from raising. A padlock is great. Unless you have not coupled the hitch to the ball correctly there is virtually no upward force on the lever/handle of the hitch.
