Hello All,

Although not new to RVing, (have barrowed the in-law's 5fth wheel), we finally purchased our first starter TT. We weren't planning on getting an RV, but some friends asked if we would start camping with them. So that Friday, we started looking on Craigslist for a smaller travel trailer we could pull with our 1/2 ton pickup. I came across an ad for a 2021 Grand Design Transcend Xplor 240ML, less than a year old. Although we had never heard of Grand Design RVs, we liked the pictures and went to take a look on Saturday. We fell in love with it, but weren't ready to purchase yet, as we really hadn't looked at other brands and models. On Sunday, we spent most of the day looking at used RVs at dealerships and consignment centers. After looking at the competition's entry level brands and models, it became very clear that Grand Design is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to quality, amenities, and appearance. Late Sunday, we texted the couple with the Transcend hoping it hadn't sold over the weekend, and it hadn't. We ended up picking it up that next Friday.

For the last two weeks, Laura has been decorating and I have been fixing small issues the original owner hadn't taken care of, as well as some maintenance (sanitizing the fresh water system, torqueing lug nuts, etc.), In addition, we have been busy purchasing some of the basic necessities needed for RVing. This weekend we leave for a short shakedown trip (3 day weekend.)

There are so many things that we love about this trailer from the floor plan, to the décor, to the factory installed solar system, to the large holding tanks. It's like this trailer was made for us. I used to build homes in a previous life, so trust me when I say I am very critical when it comes to detail and finish work. I have to say, there is very little I would change about this trailer, given that it is an entry level brand. Three things Grand Design could improve upon in my humble opinion.

  • Break main cabin lights into different circuits or at a minimum have a dimmer switch. Don't need 6 bright puck lights on all the time.
  • A few more cabinet doors instead of open cubbies.
  • Install a catch on the Pet Drawer located under the refrigerator, not sure why this was overlooked by GD, but it is needed.

We feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon this GD Transcend Xplor. We can't tell you how ecstatic we are to be members of the Grand Design family of owners, and look forward to may years of enjoyment.

Congrats and welcome to the group. There's lots of knowledgeable folks here so don't be shy to ask if you any questions.
