Just wanted to thank everbody who has helped with opinions and advice over the last year. After all the repair $ we had to put into our old truck over the last few years I was struggling with deciding if I wanted another diesel or go with a gasser, then dually or single rear wheels. Well after much discussion, debating, and shopping around we finally bit the bullet and traded our 13 year old truck in for ...

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD 4X4 with Duramax/Allison Black with black leather interior.

Still was not completely sold on diesel again over gas, but we got a good deal, and didn't pay much over what a gas one would have been. In fact we got this brand new for $6,000 less than Dodge wanted for a used 2015 on their lot!
It is taller than our old Ford so now my full profile 2nd a/c is that much taller going down the road. I was concerned about trailer riding too high in front but once I got on level ground it is just a smidge high in front, in my yard it looked way high. The clearance between bed rails and Reflection overhang is closer too, but it made it in and out of yard through a small ditch ok, this past weekend.
Speaking of our maiden voyage with new truck, WOW this thing is Quiet! It feels like your driving a car, no road or engine noise! Only had 200 miles on it when we hooked up to fiver for a 200 mile round trip, so I didn't hammer it at all, will let it break in first, but pulled nice and stopped better. 90 miles of interstate and the rest small towns and open country roads, averaged 11.4 mpg towing. That's 2.4 better than our old F350. Pleased with that too.
Anyway, thanks again for everybody's help and sorry for the long post.

Nice addition. I usually get around the same towing. However, I usually only average about 14 overall. Wish I could get the 20+ Barbara&Dave are getting.

Congrats on the new toy! Wish you many safe and happy trips. Say hi to Jan!

Nice truck, I am a GM guy though. I average around 15 MPG with my driving style and area I travel. I do average several smiles per mile with my Duramax. I have loved all my diesel trucks, this one is no different.

Congratulations! I love mine, not towing I get 18 to 21 MPG with mine, Towing 12 to 14 MPG. I researched and read every article but ended up listening to others and bought a Chevy 3500 dually. the 400 hp and 750 ft lbs of torque seem to pull the mountain passes with no issues.

Hey Scott,

Nice Truck !
Thoughtful research led you to the right choice.

Rob

Nice looking truck, hope it trays you will. We have the GMC version and love it. We also jumped from a Ford.

Congrats on the new truck, I think you will love it as we do ours.

Scott & Jan--very sweet !!! Now you are ready to get and pull that new Solitude too.......more pics. coming I imagine !

Thanks everybody for the encouraging posts. Hope it does serve us well. Our Ford served us good for the first nine years, just the last four were rough and expensive. As you can see in our signature it took us all over this great land, many of those states multiple times. And it was my work truck for the first nine years also, dragging 13,000 lb bumper pull trailer all day every day. Then on weekends pulled our 7,000 lb TT for six years and our Reflection for 15 months. I'll bet, of the 240,000 miles I put on it, maybe 5-10,000 miles were without a trailer.
Looking forward to many great memories in this one too. Now to fill in the rest of those states...

Congratulation, while I own a Ford I love the looks of the Chevy trucks. I think all three brands have great looking trucks and you really can't go wrong with any of them but all of the GM trucks look awesome.

Congrats on the new truck!

I bought our 2015 GMC 3500 Duramax dually last year and have loved it. Yes, definitely a quiet truck with a great ride.

Would love to hear how some folks are getting that good gas mileage....though I'm assuming it has more to do with less lead in the foot and less pulling weight.

Mike--love our quiet LTZ SRW. No wind and generally flat we get 11 +/- towing our 303 @ 65.......not towing same parameters/conditions, we get 22+/-.

Dan

You made a good choice. You don't hear many folks regretting having 'too much truck", but you hear many regretting not having enough.
