So we have up graded our truck to a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD standard bed with a 6.6L Duramax and Max Trailering Package which has the (new to us) puck system. We will be towing our 2023 278BH. My question, is a slider hitch needed or not, hoping to find someone with this same set up for input. My old truck was a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD standard bed with a 6.6L gas but it had a B&W gooseneck setup which worked great with our camper, no issues with clearance, just not sure of the placement of the new puck system.

I believe the puck system should be a standard distance equal to using above bed rails. Having said that, I never used my slider in the 5 years we had that hitch. This year I went with the Curt Crosswing. It has 5" offset to the rear, giving more clearance. I have had to get into a tight place once this year, and I was almost 90* and had plenty of clearance left. Using a puck system you would need to use the gooseball in the center position of the puck system. With the Crosswing (If your going with a new hitch) that would give about 9" offset.

No issue with our puck system setup. We have the B&W companion hitch with support arms set back to the rear position. This puts the pin several inches behind the rear axel. No clearance issues and we have a very tight turn getting into our storage facility. I have gotten out a few times to check the angle and place it at ~80 degrees. Not having the wide body trailer is a plus in this situation.

Even with a solitude I was good with a B&W standard in that same configuration. No 90 degree turns, but plenty of room. With my previous narrow body fifth wheel it really worked well.

I have a 2021 278BH and a 2023 GMC 3500 Standard Bed CC . I use a B&W Companion Hitch in the pucks and have never had any problems . Never even came close to any cab/front cap. contact .
